Who Should John Kerry Apologize To? |
|
Nobody...
Should he apologize to Mary Cheney for saying she's gay?
No....
She's openly gay and proud...
Should he apologize to the Cheney's for announcing their daughter is gay after they have both publicly acknowledged i?
No...
Since there is nobody to apologize to how is his statement offensive?

1. Lynn Cheney, the Vp's wife is the only person who seems to have... |

...the problem with openly discussing her daughter being gay. I sure don't have a problem with Mary Cheney being a lesbian, live and let live!

3. I think he should at least talk to if not apologize to Mary Cheney |
|
and not because she's gay, but because she's a family member who was singled out during a nationally televised debate.
Would have made me uncomfortable.

10. And she gets pd. six figures |
|
You can't have it both ways folks.
She is on staff for the campaign.
She really is supporting a ticket that says it hates her kind.
IMO, Kerry was kind to the whole crew of them.
They have been awful to gay people.
Kerry was kindly pointing out their ability to wear two faces.
Don't forget, Lynn cashed in on her trashy book.

14. Absolutely right. That means she's in play. |
|
She's not a youngster, she's not closeted, she's not uninvolved.
They can't have it both ways.

13. When does Bush apologize for his HUNDREDS of lies about Kerry? |
|
When Bush apologizes for his lies, then perhaps Kerry can admit that he was telling the truth about the Cheneys and clarify that he was not doing it to be offensive.

6. Bush. Kerry could've been polite enough to emit just a few Freedom Bubbles |
|
but he didn't, and I think it was deliberate. Americans see foaming at the mouth as a sign of strong leadership, and after they went to all that trouble to dress alike, Kerry came across as weak on spittle.

"I should apologize for bringing up family members of the candidates in a debate forum yesterday. It was wrong for me to do. Just like it would have been wrong of me to point out that Laura Bush killed her ex-boyfriend with her car. That wouldn't have been appropriate. Or saying that the president's two daughters are drunken lushes who like to stick their tongues out at reporters like third graders, or that the President's family made much of its money supporting Adolf Hitler. Those would have been wrong things to say. Oh, and mentioning that the President's niece has a susbstance abuse problem. That would have also definitely been wrong. Pointing out the Bush family's connections to the Bin Laden family and the John Hinckley family might have been a little more above the belt, but not so much in a forum about domestic issues. So, yes, I apologize for bringing Cheney's daughter into the debate. I apologize specifcally to Lynne Cheney, who understands these issues better than anyone, having written a steamy lesbian sex novel called Sisters, available at a used bookstore near you."

Bush needs to apologize for his hundreds of lies about Kerry b/f Kerry starts apologizing for telling the truth.

I watched hardball last night and got really upset that people didn't get the essence of the question that was asked. It wasn't about gay marriage, it was about whether being gay is a choice. I heard commentators like Buchanan and Scarborough saying you don't talk about kids drug use...or being a ballerina (poking fun at Reagan), but those things are choices. Mary Cheney is gay. She is out of the closet. Hopefully she accepts who she is and if she does, it shouldn't be taken as an insult. Kerry was saying Bush either you think Mary chose this, or you are wanting to write discrimination against her in the Constitution.
I'm sure my gay friends appreciated that. That was speaking to them, who nobody knows (particularly republicans)....but they know who Mary Cheney is.

What made it seem gratuitous was his statement that Mary "would probably say." In other words, he didn't actually know her opinion on the subject. If that's the case, why put words in her mouth when thousands have offered their opinions? This is not exactly a strong argument for a debate.
Ok, since it won't score debate points, why do it? The only reason I can come up with is that Kerry hoped to stir up homophobia in the Republican base. Now maybe the ends justify the means but that's still a vile tactic; a tactic, I think, Kerry should apologize for using.
