Do alarms go off in anyones head when....
Bush says he wants to spread freedom to the rest of the world. I get this creepy feeling that he has this list of countries he plans to forcefully overtake to "GIVE" this freedom to. I don't think its actually freedom he is talking about. I think its his religious ideology that he wants to spread. Maybe I am just being paranoid.

1. It's a crusade.
Bush and others in his administration have used that very word.

And, yes, it has much more to do with religion than freedom.

Since they died en masse at the hands of a Christians during the "Crusades" centuries ago (if I recall my history correctly).

2. Yeah, especially during the Republican convention..
when Bush said he will bring "freedom" to the Middle East. And he claims to not want a draft?

Of course, this sounds all too much like "HOLY WAR".

Edited on Thu Oct-14-04 10:45 AM by leftofthedial
global capitalism

fundamentalist "christianity"

the freedom he is talking about is the freedom of Halliburton to exploit the population and the freedom of Pat Robertson to "save their souls"

Hitler wanted global freedom too and spoke of it continually.

11. I re-read the comments....and yes, it is VERY SCARY....
Bush:

I believe that God wants everybody to be free. That's what I believe.

And that's been part of my foreign policy. In Afghanistan, I believe that the freedom there is a gift from the Almighty. And I can't tell you how encouraged I am to see freedom on the march.

And so my principles that I make decisions on are a part of me, and religion is a part of me.

12. I bet
top of the list are the oil-producing countries! Iraq proves that * spreads chaos. He has destroyed a country that hasn't attacked the US!!! In this time of war a change of leader is most necessary to prevent more chaos. Other countries' leaders don't want to help because * has alienated them with his lack of diplomacy. He was very wrong to think that he could order them around.

Now the whole world has seen the debates...Is there anyone left who has respect for him?

Thank heaven for little guerres
For little guerres get bigger every day
Thank goodness for little guerres
They grow up in the most delightful way

Those little lies
So helpless and appealing
One day will flash
And send you crashin' thru the ceilin'

Thank heaven for little guerres
Thank heaven for them all,
No matter where no matter who
For without them, what would little boys do?
Thank heaven...
Thank heaven...
Thank heaven for little wars.

22. Cops of the World, by Phil Ochs
Come get out of the way, boys
Quick get out of the way
You'd better watch what you say, boys
Better watch what you say
We've rammed in your harbor and tied to your port
Our pistols are hungry our tempers are short
So bring your daughters around to the port
Cause we're the cops of the world

We pick and choose as we please boys
Pick and choose as we please
You'd best get down on your knees, boys,
Best get down on your knees
We're hairy and horny and ready to shack
And we don't care if you're yellow or black
Just take off your clothes and lie down on your back
Cause we're the cops of the world boys
We're the cops of the world

Our boots are needing a shine, boys
Boots are needing a shine
But our Coca Cola is fine, boys
Coca Cola is fine
We've got to protect all our citizens fair
So we'll send a battalion for everyone there
And maybe we'll leave in a couple of years
Cause we're the cops of the world, boys
We're the cops of the world

And dump the reds in a pile, boys
Dump the reds in a pile
You'd better wipe off that smile, boys
Better wipe off that smile
We'll spit through the streets of the cities we wreck
And we'll find you a leader that you can't elect
Those treaties we signed were a pain in the neck
Cause we're the cops of the world, boys
We're the cops of the world

And clean the johns with a rag, boys
Clean the johns with a rag
If you like you can use your flag, boys
If you like you can use your flag
We've got too much money and we're looking for toys
And guns will be guns and boys will be boys
But we'll gladly pay for all we destroy
Cause were the cops of the world, boys
We're the cops of the world

Please stay off of the grass, boys
Please stay off of the grass
Here's a kick in the ass, boys
Here's a kick in the ass
We'll smash down your doors, we don't bother to knock
We've done it before, so why all the shock
We're the biggest and toughest kids on the block
And we're the cops of the world, boys
We're the cops of the world

And when we've butchered your sons, boys
We we've butchered your sons
Have a stick of our gum, boys
Have a stick of our gum
We own half of the world, oh say can you see
And the name for our profits is democracy
So, like it or not, you will have to be free
Cause we're the cops of the world, boys
We're the cops of the world.

27. God wants people to be free...
It's part of his foreign policy. That's what he said. It's one thing to believe that and diplomatically work towards that goal. It's a whole other thing to start wars for religious beliefs. I think it's nuts and ought to scare the shit out of people. We start wars to defend ourselves and for no other reason.

33. I concur with everyone here
The way he pairs it with Religion is really creepy. I think you're correct when you say there's a list of countries.
We know there was one for economic interests, but I doubt he was very interested in learning about that. I do think it's quite possible that the idea of a megalomanic religious "victory" could have gotten Bush's attention and pursuaded him to pursue it more enthusiastically.
When he has his "all about me" moments, he always refers to religion.

34. He was reaching out to his true believers
He knows he can count on the Xtian dominionists and reconstructionists, the Xtian Zionists and assorted evangelicals. I think he believes his own St. George the Moor Killer persona. "I am the war president." Yes, that's exactly what I thought when he spoke.

"NUKE 'EM IN THE NAME 'O JAYSUS, PRAISE GOD!"

"O thank you Bush and Jesus...I've seen the light! His God is bigger than my God! I renounce Islam!"
