NRSC Concedes to Russ Feingold
The National Republican Senate Committee (NRSC) has cancelled $1.2 million in ads it was going to spend to help GOP candidate Tim Michels--conceding the state to Feingold.

Russ had won narrowly in '98 looks like he is in a much stronger position this time around.

1. How might that affect the Presidential race there?
It's very tight.

5. I think the Dems are motivated in Wisconsin
Feingold has been running one of the best campaigns I've ever seen. Great advertising, and very strong at getting his message out. He's got broad support. Michels is a lightweight who runs cheap-shot advertising and his platform is "whatever Bush is for". He's lame, but he's got the GOP hardcore base support.

There are some good congressional races here. I'm sure Milwaukee's black community is motivated about Gwen Moore. Many are still stinging over Marvin Pratt's loss in the mayoral election, and they detest Bush (Bush got roughly 2% of the Milwaukee black vote in 2000). Gwen is running an easy race in a very Dem-leaning district against the son of ex-Packer Mark Chmura's lawyer. She's campaigning tough, and I hope she's stumping hard for strong voter turnout as well. This could win Wisconsin for Kerry. Gore barely won here in 2000.

6. Not just the black community in Milwaukee though!!
The progressive BASE is fired up about Gwen here. She's a TRUE progressive and has many admiring friends in all the "pockets" here, peace groups, ethnic groups, family groups, etc.

Plus, she will be the FIRST African American that Wisconsin has EVER sent to Washington. It'll be good to finally knock down that sad legacy.

7. It's not tight.
It is if you believe the corporate media establishment polls. I don't. I believe my eyes and ears.

4. Yes, they tend to be ticket splitters
and polls have shown Feingold running ahead of Kerry. I would like for Kerry and Feingold to do a joint commercial, if that is possible, to take better advantage of Feingold's coattails.

3. Maybe they could shift the money to Bunning's campaign
Or if that doesn't work, there's always Alan Keyes!

9. You know, the rethugs have some really weak Senate candidates.
This, in conjunction with the slim pickings they seem to have for 2008 Presidential candidates is just great news if you are a Democrat.

I am not one of those who thinks McCain would be a strong candidate. I think he has a strong reputation, but his campaigning with the shrub this year is a real turn off for all democrats.

Any moderates he could win over would be more than offset by turned off right wingers.

Giuliani? He is too pugnacious to win over a lot of moderates, and he can't appeal to the right wingers. He's only got one issue (9/11) and who knows whether that will still be a big issue in four years.

8. he faces
a much stiffer challenger in his last race. He also submitted to the constraints of McCain-Feingold before it was law. He basically unilaterally disarmed in that race.

10. But he knows how to work with it now
Feingold's running a phenomenal campaign. It's all about issues, and while he's not letting Michels' attacks go unanswered, he's not taking cheap shots. His message on prescription drugs, the Patriot Act and outsourcing is very strong. He's a straight shooter, and perhaps one of the best senators in congress.

Michels is a Bushbot sleazebag who wants to rubberstamp Bush's policies. He'll only attract the hardcore Pugs.

11. Yea! I love the comment from the morning radio guys
when they read that news. One said, "I guess that means Tim Michels is going down." The other replied, "Well, he has no place to go, he's already down there. He's hit bottom."

And these are the Repub DJs again.

14. NRSC has been killing Bowles in NC
They run ads all day long. Burr and RNC ads outnumber Bowles by 6-1. And the DNC is no where to be found. They're killing Bowles with Clinton
