KERRY/EDWARDS DROP TEN POINTS IN THE POLLS!!!!!!!!!
If you act any differently that the title of this thread, you are setting yourself up for a huge letdown!

Folks, we're close, but nowhere near close enough. We have to treat the next eighteen days as if we are down ten points in the polls.

Stop the BS about a landslide! If you want a landslide, work like we are ten points behind in the polls!

Stop the back slaps and the schadenfreude over the sweeping of four debates! If you want to win, treat the next eighteen days as if we are down ten points in the polls.

Now is not the time to get cocky! Now is the time to donate additional money to the DNC, to work for a Kerry/Edwards victory, and to work for Democratic candidates at all levels of government!

Don't go soft now! WORK WORK WORK!!! Anything less than being up ten points in the polls is too close and will be close enough for them to STEAL ANOTHER ELECTION RIGHT OUT FROM UNDER US!!!!!

I now return you to your regularly scheduled DU experience.

5. Until Kerry is sworn in, we have not won
Remember that, even if it's a landslide on November 2, we still have seventy-nine days before it becomes a FACT!

I have no idea what sort of crap they'll pull out of their asses if they lose. Maybe do their own version of Operation Northwoods & use it as an excuse to declare marshall law.

as happy as I am with the debate knockouts, you're absolutely right. We gotta get out there and work our butts off. A close election can be cheated and twisted and contested and oh god none of us want to go through that again!

15. Gore was ahead in the polls at this point too
and look at what happened! They'll try to steal it; the only way to come out even slightly ahead is to get a huge majority of the votes!

Sign up with your campaign office, talk to the Bush backers you know-now is not the time to be timid or hold our tongues! Hit the Sinclair activism threads, write letters to the Editors of your local papers, hold an F-9/11 party at your home, or donate a DVD to your library. Do it now!

12. You are absolutely right
It's been a long hard climb to get to where we are now but this is not the time to stop and enjoy the view. There will be time enough for that after the election. We must keep ourselves focused on the real goal which is not to be ahead in the polls right now but to be ahead in the only poll that means anything: election night. Just imagine how sweet it's going to be when we get to watch smirk's concession speech. Then imagine how much sweeter it's going to be as we watch Kerry take the oath of office.

13. Very well said, Walt
most people here are young and never been involved in a campaign. Regardless of what the polls say, you always run like you're down 10 points because the polls just might be wrong and you really are down 10 points.

No one really knows what's going to happen. No one can accurately predict how well evangelicals turn out to vote for Bush. Or, will all these new registered Democrats really go vote? And, there is ALWAYS the danger of Kerry voters not turning out because of the notion that "Kerry's going to win anyway". A classic example of that happened in San Antonio to Congressman Ciro Rodriguez who "lost" (and I put "lost" in quotes because that's another thread) in the primaries to Henry Cuellar, Bush's former Secretary of State in Texas. There was a very poor turnout for Ciro on the city's South side, Ciro's base, because of the notion that "Ciro always wins so I don't need to go vote."

People thinking Kerry's going to win may well be the biggest threat of all to Kerry right now. That thought breeds nonchalance. We need to assume Kerry's still behind because he just might still be.

by loss, I can't help but be pleased by current conditions. It makes me want to work my butt off to put us over the top knowing that our effort is making a difference. That being said we should not overestimate our cahnces. A win is now a possibility but we must make it a certainty!

23. The real work begins now Well put Walt
We have these voting machines to contend with. The problem with being over confident is less people will vote, and we know so many people believe thier vote doesn't count. The swing voter may be media hype,we need to get those non voters out there to see thier vote does count and is very important. All this media poop has an effect on people that makes them feel that it has nothing to do with them. They believe in t.v. more than thier own feelings.

If anyone has any doubt, they should just check out some video of the campaign rally that Bush was just holding. His supporters are as fired up as we are. It's hard to understand after the pummeling that he got last night but it played well for them.

34. Yes, Kerry will have a VERY hard job-
and if he doesn't get at least one Democratic legislative body he will have a very tough time. We must remember that in 4 years when the repugs accuse him of not doing anything. For me, just winning and kicking out the Shrub and Co. is enough to earn his pay for the next 4 years, because he will thereby prevent any further damage.

This thing is going to be razor-sharp, and Kerry is up against a vile opponent who is known for doing anything to hold onto power. We can't let up for even a moment, especially if we want to avoid a 2000-style "we won but we lose" scenario.

Today we may say aloud before an awe-struck world: "We are still masters of our fate. We are still captain of our souls." Prime Minister's Speech on the War Situation, House of Commons, September 9, 1941

Start moving them to the polls... early voting.. move them to the polls asap.. get them out early and in masses.
