Got a call from Quaker (PEPSI) "No national buys planned for Sinclair" |
|
Edited on Thu Oct-14-04 12:32 PM by BUSHOUT
Deb Quin at Quaker assured me she's spoken with PepsiCo USA and they told her they have no national ad buys planned for the Sinclair networks in question. Exact words: "No national advertising buys scheduled"
I let her know that bloggers would be watching the networks and if any Pepsi products were spotted in the days ahead of this "news" piece being aired then a full out boycott would be likely.
She seemed amazed at the internet response happening!
The explicit impression she gave me was that Pepsi was not advertising on these networks.
Anyone see any of the products, set off an alarm.

4. This is a dodge-I was talking to a national advertising manager |
|
for a different company yesterday; she told me that the national companies have no control on what play on specific local markets or subsidiaries of the broadcasting channels like ABC/NBC, etc. They sell to ABC, then the local markets actually buy the specific product they want. In her opinion, it is more productive to go after the local advertisers and markets.
That said, I believe, and told her, that even if it's true that they have no direct control over who plays commercials in what markets, the fact that they are associated with it makes them supportive.
If I hear this type of dodge from any company, I will not accept it and let them know I still intend to boycott their products as long as Sinclair does this unethical and probably illegal action.

5. We'll watch the network affiliates in question, and if it's a dodge... |
|
then Pepsico gets a lifetime ban award.
Bring 'em on.

6. they need to be made aware of one thing: |
|
if sinclair airs this attack piece just before the election, and kerry loses, there will be a significant number of people who will want to blame kerry's loss on sinclair. there will be far more motivation for this boycott than the usual, even if it's purely retributive.

7. Yes, but even when Kerry wins they will suffer if.... |
|
they air ads at anytime in the interim until the show airs.
Lifetime ban if anyone reports a pepsi product ad on any of the Sinclair networks.
