I'm still advocating an infomercial. Or just a simple "thank you." |
|
I've long clamored for Kerry to do an infomercial on the eve before the election.. an infomercial where he could tidy-up any loose-end issues with the voters, show his personal side, and explicitly thank the American people for the wonder's that he's seen in recent times.
We know that when Kerry shows his gentle side, he gains nicely. Think of his comments about his mother last night, and his comments about marrying-up. No, not very substantive, but they're playing really, really well.
Even if it's a mere 30 seconds, I think Kerry should take some time to go on television and just say 'thanks.' "Thanks for opening your homes and hearts to me. Thanks for sharing your concerns with me; I now have a fuller picture of what you're going through. Thank you for showing me your strength - America's strength. You've taught me so very much about our country, and should I be blessed enough tomorrow night, I'll strive every day to remember what I've learned from you."
(The words I type for him are rough and could stand some polishing, but you get the idea, right?)
And he need not make an open appeal for votes. He'd get a bonus from the voters just for being positive and hopeful, lol.. The appeal is implicit, and perhaps even more powerful a device when used in that fashion. Just that final connection with the voters, leaving a good taste in their mouth before they go in to vote.. it could make a nice difference.
