Whats up with Mrs. Cheney? |
|
Following the debate Lynn Cheney accused Kerry of pulling a "cheap and tawdry political trick."
Why was she silent when Illinois GOP Senate candidate Alan Keyes called her a "sinner" and a "selfish hedonist."?

6. Because HER statement is a cheap and tawdry political trick |
|
They parade Mary out to get gay votes and when someone mentions it they "act" all indignant.
Hypocrites.
Sounds like she is really really pissed that her gay daughter is causing the Bushco trouble and so spins it back at Kerry.
In all honesty I wish Kerry had avoided the issue, but I DO think it was fair play (I think the campaign told him to do it and he decided to -- you could see the pause and decision to say it)
It was risky and he knew it. BUT it is true what he said AND itr needed to be said to demonstrate Bushco's idiocy and hypocrisy.
How do gay folks on DU feel about it though. I was wondering.

8. Well being Gay I don't have a problem with it. |

She is part of her fathers campaign team. Although she is out of the closet, I am all for outing closeted people that vote against equal rights for Gays & believe me they are out there!

14. What is so risky about stating the facts? |
|
Kerry was asked a fairly loaded question about whether or not people were born gay or do the chose to be gay. Gee Mr. Schielfer, did you chose to be heterosexual?
Kerry saw the door open and he walked through it. I don't blame him.
This is a great issue. Already, Lynn Cheney is attacking Kerry for telling the truth and calling it a cheap and tawdry trick? The cheap and tardy trick is a family who will talk about their daughter's sexuality when it is to their political advantage, but then pretends she doesn't exist, when it came time to bring the family up on stage, at the end of the convention.

10. She made the comments |
|
at a Bush "loyalty oath" rally, I believe. I really hope a reporter will follow up and ask her why it is "tawdry" to acknowledge that her daughter is a lesbian as if it is something she should be ashamed of. Seems to me she would be boxed in by her answer: either she looks like a bigot, even to her own daughter, or she further alienates the "she's a degenerate sinner!" base.

I keep hearing how Mrs. Cheney is upset. Did someone interview her or was this in a news report? Did she say the same thing about Edwards?

18. At the same press-op, she called Kerry "an abomination" |
|
and she repeated this at least once more. I got the feeling that she was using that word in a fundy way. It gave me the shivers. UGH!
But it makes a kind of demented (politically tricky) sense for her to project the fundy belief that gayness is an "abomination" onto Kerry. Trying to shore up the bigoted base, I guess.
But to non-gay-haters, this name-calling of Kerry would just make her look even more hateful and rabid than usual, no?

19. Mrs. Cheney is a PAID OPERATIVE of the GOP and OUTRAGE is her profession |
|
She will say WHATEVER it takes to keep her husband in power.
That is why she is portraying a compassionate statement by Senator Kerry as an "abomination."
