Army reviewing policy that restricts Guard members to Camp Shelby

Associated Press
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Military officials are reviewing a decision to restrict the use of private vehicles by about 3,500 members of the 155th Brigade Combat Team currently training at Camp Shelby.

The policy was implemented this week. It restricts the soldiers to the Mississippi National Guard base south of Hattiesburg.

The decision means the soldiers will have no more leaves and cannot drive their personal vehicles, Ollie Akmenkalns of Columbus, whose son is in the brigade, said Wednesday.

"They were promised in no uncertain terms that the time at Christmas was to be theirs," Akmenkalns said. "Now they're saying that leave has been canceled."

What a way to win the hearts and minds of our soldiers and their families, just break promises all the time and treat them with no respect.

1. They're trying desperately to stem the flow of soldiers going AWOL...
...but IMHO, this tactic is only going to make matters worse.

3. That was my thoughts exactly, especially when the father of one
of the soldiers was interviewed and said that his son's unit was the only one being restricted so.
