"When I asked Laura to marry me, she said....."
Edited on Thu Oct-14-04 01:02 PM by kentuck
"...so long as I don't have to give speeches." Is Bush lying about that? Or did he really have political ambitions at that age? Was he about 26? And isn't it rather hypocritical of him to accuse others of being "politicians", even though his wife-to-be did not want to make any political speeches?

13. It even took me a while to realize both my sig pics are movie related...
Dean in "Lord of the Rings" and Moore as King Kong! It wasn't until 2 days after I starting using both that the movie connection sunk in.

2. Consider his father and other relatives.
Of course he did. Considering his background, he had political aspirations at an early age.

Like birth.

3. Don't know if it's true, but the two of them tell it over and over.
Laura told it pretty much word for word on a talk show or two or three.

Most of the publicly written Bush background is phony. What does Kitty Kelley say really happened?

"OK, George, I'll marry you, but I only do it in one position, and only under the supervision of my father. Now pass me that doobie."

6. Ummm....
His ambitions at that age was to get drunk and snort cocaine. After he was "done" with that he signed up deals and ventures where he bascially stole millions. I don't see the man as having "ambitions".....

7. Just more of Bush's alcoholic distortions of reality, I doubt if he can...
...discern the true from the false, the unreal from the real. Vote John Kerry for president and speak the truth about Bush/Cheney.

8. He was running for office when they married.

In fact, they spent their honeymoon driving around West Texas, campaigning. Yee-hah. No, I'm not kidding. They met and married so fast at such a convenient time, the cynic in me has to wonder (given what we know of Junior's 'character') if he didn't just decide being married would look good in a candidate. Apparently not. He lost. Awwwwww! Not often enough, though!

12. Isn't it odd that party boy Shrub met and married Pickles
in a matter of weeks just as he was about to run for Congress. They went directly on the campaign trail and didn't have a honeymoon. Now how does a partier shed his image quickly? He obtains a schoolmarm wife!

I've always found this illuminating. Shrub is a political animal through and through. They didn't even have a real wedding, just a hurry up affair in street clothes. Could it have been so that the wedding itself didn't get much attention and it would appear that the Shrubs had been married for awhile? Just wondering.

14. Since he feels it's okay to break his word to her, why should America
trust him? Isn't he admitting his marriage is predicated on a lie?

18. Remember, the reason he went AWOL was to work on a campaign
He had aspirations. When he graduated from Harvard with an MBA he returned to west Texas to start a business. His first step was to enroll in a junior college course on how to start a business (that should say a lot about Harvard's graduate business program). He dropped out of that program to run for Congress, but got trounced.

When his father ran for president in 1980, Bush was involved in the campaign. In 1990, when Richards was elected governor of Texas, the Republicans wanted W to run then, but all the polls and focus groups showed that Texans didn't consider the Bushes Texans. That's when W's presidential campaign started, actually. Bush Daddy began establishing a presence in Texas, and decided to build his library here (that was a surprise at the time), and W bought the Texas Rangers and started wearing cowboy boots (before that he was famous for wearing sandals with socks), and started trying to sound like a Texan, or whatever the hell his fake accent and posture is supposed to sound like. Sounds more like a New England preppie who sat on a corncob and can't dig the thing out, but some people assume it's Texan for some reason.

But yeah, Bush had political aspirations way back. He was just too stoned, too drunk, too unsuccessful and too stupid to fulfil any of them.
