Dick and Lynne face reality: Your daughter is gay, many Americans
are gay. Kerry stated the truth, face it and accept it.

1. And what pray tell is so shameful about saying that. Would they be
pitching a hissy, if Kerry came out and talked about their heterosexual daughter. Give me a break. Their reaction leads me to believe they think something is wrong with being gay.

2. Yep, every damn family has a gay member whether they know
it or not. It's a fact. The Cheney's are playing a stupid game and they don't seem to realize how bad it makes them look. Keep sputtering, Lynne.

3. And he did it in a kind and respectful...
manner.

Being gay myself, it's difficult to hear people say I made some kind of choice. That's ridiculous, as I have always been gay, even if I didn't know what made me different from others.

The old cannard of "it's a hedious choice", ala Alan Keyes, doesn't jive with my own memories or experience. Or those of my sister's (also gay) or friends with whom I've discussed the issue.

It's as foreign to me as asking a heterosexual to imagine changing their orientation.

Welcome to DU! :hi:

5. Kerry was respectful, the rethugs HATE that
it's ok with them for someone like Keyes to attack Mary, because deep in their hearts, Dick and Lynn are ashamed they have a gay daughter.

According to the fundies, that makes the Cheneys damaged goods.

How dare Kerry treat it as normal and healthy.

6. Sorry,but I think personalizing the response was wrong.
The sexuality(or anything else) of any candidate's offspring should be off limits.

7. If you feel that way, direct your ire at Cheney.
He's the one who politicized his daughter's sexuality

“Lynne and I have a gay daughter, so it’s an issue our family is very familiar with,” Cheney told an audience that included his daughter. “With the respect to the question of relationships, my general view is freedom means freedom for everyone. ... People ought to be free to enter into any kind of relationship they want to.

“The question that comes up with the issue of marriage is what kind of official sanction or approval is going to be granted by government? Historically, that’s been a relationship that has been handled by the states. The states have made that fundamental decision of what constitutes a marriage,” he said.

8. We seem to be in the minority - I agree
I don't really care what context it's in, I just don't see the wisdom in invoking an opponent's family, unless that family member is an office holder or an ex-president.
From a purely strategic angle, I think it's a bad move.
