"Outing" of Mary Cheney will start a civil war among Republicans
Once their anger against Kerry dies down, they will be bitterly divided between the racist bigots and the moderate Republicans. The bigots will say they can't vote for Bush/Cheney, and the moderates won't know what to do. This only exposes the homophobic element within the Republican Party. I hope the whacko right and the conservatives fracture starting this election! It's bound to happen.

2. I've been saying for a while
that the only place that Gay Rights was gonna be a wedge issue was in the republican party itself.

3. Psst.
Mary Cheney has been a known lesbian for quite a long time. There was no "outing" recently. Do you know something I don't?

5. Shhhhh... don't ask, don't tell!
<sarcasm>

Hey, it's ok for Mary Cheney to be gay as long as we can pretend we don't know about it, right?

</sarcasm>

6. Maybe someone should go on the FR and point out...
Edited on Thu Oct-14-04 03:43 PM by LostInAnomie
... how bad of parents the Cheney's must be to raise a lesbian daughter. After all there is no scientific evidence that homosexuality has anything to do with genetics. It has to be nurture instead of nature.

Maybe someone should point that out to them... heh heh.

7. AND it exposes the homphobia of the press!!!!!!!!!!!
Those picking up on it aren't shocked that Kerry used Mary's name, but are shocked that the issue of gay marriage and gay rights might have a HUMAN face!

Fuck them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10. i think lots of letters need to be written to lots of editors,
confessing SHOCK that the vice president of these united states has a homo daughter.

the phone lines must buzz to all the christian and non-christian extreme right wing radio stations.

"hay, this is earl from wetumpka. ah've bout decided ah'm gon' stay home on election day. i ain't voting fer that sumbitch cheney cause his daughter's a lez-bo."

let's all help their base feel more comfortable with their hatred and bigotry.

11. Who are you kidding??
Nobody, but nobody, on their side is voting for Mary Cheney. Hell, they're not even voting for Dick Cheney. They are voting for *, just like we are voting against him.

This may, or may not, be a factor in the race, but it will be on our side, not their's.

12. You underestimate the ammount of hatred some Republicans have
This is a big issue. There are many people who vote for Bush based on bigotry alone. Why do you think they started the FMA to begin with? To energize their racist base! Why do you think Jim DeMint is talking about how we can't have gay teachers in our schools, and Tom Coburn is talking about possible lesbians in the Oklahoma schools? This is part of a strategy to energize the racist/bigoted base in the Republican party, and Kerry just shot it full of holes.

13. But * isn't gay,
Dick Cheney isn't gay. Neither, to the best of my knowledge, is espousing gay marriage, which is what the fuss is about. *, not Dick, sets policy, and we know what it is. And nobody is responsible for their relatives failures or actions or political beliefs or sexual orientation. Billy Carter was not Jimmy's fault. This is not, by the way, a stab at gays, although looking at what I just wrote, I can see that some might take it that way. I don't know how to say it better, except to add that while people here know there is nothing wrong with being gay, there are folks who consider it wrong.

But even they are smart enough to know that we cannot control our adult family, and have no responsibility for their actions. And, besides, where are they going to go? Just like us, they know it's Bush or Kerry. One of them will be President.

14. Kerry basically put Mary Cheney on the RNC stage
Dick and Lynne wanted to hide her at the Convention. Now she's there...a little late...but...

I say that Kerry should bring it up AGAIN.

It's like throwing water on the Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz.

15. The Cheney family outrage is directed at
the fundy base of bigots who would be the only ones who care what their daughters sexual preference is.
It is utterly disgraceful that they would shame their own daughter for political gain. But we all know that it is Rove who is calling the shots.

18. Listen to the media whores try to spin!
How sick they must feel (assuming that they have feelings).

This is such a no-win for them that it wouldn't surprise me if they or their bosses wound up in the hospital over it. I almost feel sorry for them.
