CNN, October 14, 2000 poll: Bush pulls away

Tracking poll: Bush pulls away from Gore

WASHINGTON (CNN) - GOP presidential candidate Gov. George W. Bush has regained his lead over rival Democratic candidate, Vice President Al Gore, according to Saturday's CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll.

A second poll taken by CNN and Time Magazine after the candidates' debate on Wednesday suggests that Gore may have missed a chance in that face-off to gain any ground on his rival.

The CNN/Time poll shows Bush with a 48 percent to 43 percent edge over Gore, and the CNN/USA Today/Gallup tracking poll indicates that Bush leads Gore by 48 percent to 44 percent.

Green Party presidential candidate Ralph Nader and Reform Party candidate Patrick Buchanan both continued to founder in the single digits.

8. I don't know that it was a lie
as all the polls at that point in time, including Zogby, were showing Bush pulling away. Then, a couple of weeks later the DWI story broke. Zogby was the only poll that picked up the shift and hence ended up being the only poll that showed Gore winning.

4. Since when did a 4-5 point lead constitute "pulling away"?

6. They've since corrected that terminology
Now they call a 4-5 point Kerry lead "a tie".

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Saturday's CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll indicates GOP candidate Texas Gov. George W. Bush has built a solid advantage during the past few days over presidential rival, Democratic Vice President Al Gore.

Bush currently wins support from 49 percent of all likely voters, compared with 42 percent for Gore. Friday's poll showed Bush leading 52 percent to Gore's 39 percent.

11. Didn't Gallup give Bush a double digit lead over Gore a week before
I thought the Gallup poll gave Bush a substantial lead in the double digits over Gore just one week before the election.

12. I remember saying that day
that it was impossible and untrue. And I was right.

I also recall saying that the exit polling was correct in FL - that they were stealing the election and what the hell were the broadcast nets doing by saying Whoops!, we were wrong. NO THEY WERE NOT!

All that mea culpa over the exit polling...WTF. IT was correct - those people voted, they thought, for Gore.

...and you know what? I';ll 'get over it' after the RW 'gets over' legalized abortion.
