Gergen just said on Lou Dobbs that Kerry is now the favorite
He said before the debates he thought Bush was on his way to reelection, but now thinks Kerry has the upperhand.

2. Pundits said it was Kerry's to lose since July
I've said it since April, but I'm no pundit.

In all of my public comments, whether to friends, colleagues or family, I have said with absolute confidence and certainty, as if it is a done deal, that Kerry will win and it won't be close. I was saying this when Kerry's electoral count was ahead, and during the darkest days of August and September when the media was banging the Republican drum following their dismal convention.

It never fails to cause people's jaws to drop and eyes to bug out, even (especially) Democrats and Kerry-supporting Republicans. This gives me a chance to talk about the electoral politics, the irrelevence and inaccuracy of polls, the moral bankruptcy of the current administration, etc. And for supporters, who generally hear no one speak positively of Kerry's chances, it was a bit of very welcome optimism.

Whatever your private thoughts, it is very important that we present an extremely confident face to those around us.

12. I have been as confident as you are
even as the pollsters claim time and again that it is sooooo nail bitingly close, I have maintained that the true split is probably somewhere around 60-40 for Kerry.

Welcome to DU! It's nice to see you and you positive outlook. We can get this done.

4. Yeah, right
What, is he angling for yet another job in yet another administration?

Gergen is anybody's friend, anyone who will hire him. Now he sees the writing on the wall, he's changing his tune. Touching, that sort of integrity.

5. He Seems To Be A Straight Shooter...
When has he acted dishonorably?

6. I'll take a recent example
After the first debate, Gergen was spinning that Bush did well, until he realised just how stupid that sounded, then he decided it was a loss and started to point out the Chimp's bad performance.

He is, to me, still a Republican, just one that want's to be popular and be introduced as "respected".
