HAMPTON -- Like dozens of hand-shaking, baby-kissing, flag-waving campaign events, Saturday's parade in the Phoebus section of Hampton started out like all others for 2nd Congressional District candidate David Ashe.

The Iraq war veteran had been talking with members of the Phoebus branch of Veterans of Foreign Wars when he saw a man pass out and hit his head on the pavement near the building.
"People were grabbing cell phones and taking immediate action," Ashe said. About 300 to 400 people had been nearby watching the parade about noon.

Seconds later, Ashe was performing mouth-to-mouth on retired Army Master Sgt. Carroll L. Young, who had just been stricken by a massive heart attack

Ashe, a 35-year-old lawyer from Virginia Beach, is running against Republican state Del. Thelma Drake of Norfolk. He learned CPR when he was a lifeguard in Virginia Beach during college breaks.

2. You mean he didn't think for 7 minutes?

He knew what to do right away and everything?

I'm very happy for all involved and good luck to your cousin.

On edit:

Oh wait, the Mst Sgt died, I'm very sorry about that. That must be a very difficult thing for your cousin, he's been through enough. Good on him for his efforts though.

5. Yes, your cousin is a good man...
He has been at our meetups at Uncle Louie's. I heard him today on NPR at noon - he has some very good ideas for the 2nd District.

7. Cool! David's awesome. At either my or my sister's wedding, he was
in his uniform and was doing push-ups on the dance floor!? It was a trip!! Semper Fi! LOL!

8. I just hope that he wins...
I just saw his first commercial on TV on Tuesday. I was beginning to worry that he would not be able to advertise on either TV or through the mail. I am being bombarded with Drake brochures, which I promptly rip up and throw in the deep six file.
