Does the GOP really want to be talking about Mary Cheney?
Edited on Thu Oct-14-04 05:51 PM by demdem
They have nothing to gain and thousands of Evangelical Christians to lose. When they keep hearing about Cheney's lesbian daughter they may just stay home.

1. To them talking about Mary Cheney is better than having to
talk about Iraq, the economy or the idiot-in-chief.

2. Without assessing the issue of homosexuality, they cannot argue this one.
They don't want to characterize homosexuality one way or the other. But they cannot effectively turn this into "an issue" without doing so. The rightist on certain websites don't seem to understand this. If Cheney does come off "embarassed" for his daughter, that could be a turnoff. Further, this is wholly distracting for them, much more than for us.

3. And what a shame that would be. Would they keep their little closed minds
with them? This is the wedge issue to divide the Radical right from their Imoral Minority.

4. any publicity is good publicity...
maybe they hope to stumble onto something that will give Bush a lead and take the wind out of Kerry's sails.

5. I thought that that might be why Kerry said it.
I don't mean to be cynical but most everything is fair game in politics and Mary's sexual preference has been public for some time now. I wondered if the Kerry people knew that they would get this kind of a reaction and that it would expose the Repubs for the shits they really are and also disrupt the Repub campaign.

6. not only that with the fundies
though they rational their own sins and judge and stones everyone else's sins, but why i see it is not good, basically it is a shame of this daughter and not being able to say who she is out loud, and there are a lot of republicans who have gays in their family, and in these peoples heart, they have experienced cheneys, we love and accept her as we hide her in the guise of protecting. so basically what i am saying is it is promoting the judgement on gay thing that is offensive to many, that are both experiencing and not experiencing this in family

7. They want to focus on Kerry's gaff
to keep from focusing on shrub's lie about OBL. They want to win the spin war.

8. Key-Rist. Homosexuality is not a social disease.
I can't believe how indignant these right-wingers are about Kerry's comments regarding Dick Cheney's daughter. They act like it's a dirty-trick. Do they seriously apply the Don't Ask, Don't Tell rule outside the military?
