There Is NO Lesbian Daughter Controversy. The GOP Is Desperate
Edited on Thu Oct-14-04 06:09 PM by cryingshame
for something to dig Kerry about and cover up the fact Junior sucked and is now losing the election.

This is yet another indication of how low they go.

I can NOT believe after logging in since this morning that so many DU'ers actually ENABLE this garbage.

This is ALL THE GOP HAS after Junior crashed and burned last night and yet so many DU'ers here give energy to the stupid hypocritical nonsense the GOP is trying to pull.

Kerry had a KILLER line about Bush as Tony Soprano.

How about focusing ON THAT!

2. The whole GOP line of attack
is the implication that there's something shameful about being gay. Kerry obviously does not think that way and the GOP obviously do, hence their hysterical reaction.

5. I agree
they are freaking because they think there's something shameful about it. I think that Cheney was gritting his teeth when Edwards said it.

Unfortunately, when Bush politicized gay people's personal lives even more so than they already were, Mary Cheney became fair game. If dropping her name on public television is what's necessary to point out more of the Great Republican Hypocrisy, so be it.

3. I thought the Tony Soprano line was okay, but not killer...
Nothing to write home about, anyway.

The Osama Bin Laden statement, now, that should be played over and over and over.

4. It Got A BIG Laugh From The Audience. Read The Trancsript
it was the only joke told that got a real laugh (besides the very end).

It contasted starkly with Junior who kept trying to get a laugh and flopped EVERY TIME.

and the rest of us don't feel sorry for them at all, since we know that having a gay daughter is, well, ok.

9. More proof that the main stream media takes GOP talking points as news
The NBC Nightly News tonight ignored the "I don't really care about OBL" comment and instead hyped up this fake controversy about Mary Cheney.

14. WAKE UP, PEOPLE!! That makes 3-for-3 nightly news programs.

The "Mary Cheney" faux outrage is a ploy by the right-wing to cover Bush's ass -- for generally miserable debate performances, and likely to provide coverage for his OBL comment from last night. Unfortunately, they've been EXTREMELY successful in its implementation.

'high density' vouches that NBC Nightly News played-up the Mary Cheney story, to the exclusion of nearly any other debate coverage -- and ignoring Bush's "don't care about OBL" lie.

And I can vouch for two more...

Lou Dobbs on CNN, and
ABC World News Tonight (with Charlie Gibson filling in for Peter Jennings)

Both reported negatively on the Mary Cheney issue (relative to Kerry) and failed to comment on the OBL lie (among all the others). That makes 3-for-3 of the nightly news programs, with just CBS as the unknown. Or should we include Fox and MSNBC?

My email to Lou (loudobbs@cnn.com) has already been sent, and am heading off to compose one to ABC. I just wanted to stop in to DU to see if anyone else had a similar perspective.

We need to pound the media on this, otherwise the 3 debate victories could be muddied by right-wing sludge.

10. Because of the way the media is in a frenzy over the Cheney daughter
remark, all the good points Kerry made and all the idiotic things BUsh* said (and did) were totally wiped away. God damn it. One God damn sentence.

15. Yep. Mostly agree.
And that's why we need to pound the guilty media for their poor reporting -- and falling prey to right-wing propaganda.

11. I LOVED the Sopranos Line!
and curiously enough, I have been using this quote as my sig line for all my Yahoo mail:

People are saying to me, “I don’t understand it. I coulda sworn we voted for West Wing. How’d we end up with the Sopranos?” -Swami Beyondananda

12. Doesn't Mary Cheney work for the Bush Cheney 2004 campaign?
Edited on Thu Oct-14-04 06:46 PM by snippy
And before that didn't she work for the White House? And before that didn't she work for the Bush Cheney 2000 campaign? And before that didn't she work for Coors in a gay/lesbian liason position? And in 2002 didn't she serve on the advisory board of "the Republican Unity Coalition, a gay-straight alliance formed within the Republican party to help increase tolerance within the party for gays and lesbians, and others"?

Mentioning her sexual orientation is not talking about her private life, it is talking about her professional life.

17. Your logic, though perfect, is irrelevant.
The point of the faux-outrage is to distract the media from reporting on Kerry's victory across all 3 debates, Bush's inconsistent character from debate-to-debate, and perhaps especially to prevent coverage of Bush's OBL-related comment last night:

Pound the media, and get them back on track.

13. "Repukes lecturing us on lesbians...
is like having Tony Soprano lectures us on law and order, or like having bush* lecture us about fiscal responsibility."

Learn from the master. Do what Kerry did!!

When someone attacks, change the topic to something that hurts them. Talking about lesbians, at best, will only stop people from leaving Kerry. It's playing defense, and you don't win by playing defense.

18. harboring homophobic thoughts of homosexuality and lesbianism
please permit me to invoke a french label on gwb, president sac de douche, or as they say in down home rural texas, president douche bag. gwb chose not to be gay and wants to amend the constitution to prohibit dick's daughter from settling down with the dyke she loves til death do they part. dick chose not be gay, loves his daughter very very much, but supports gwb solidly in his effort to block his little girl's attempts to tie the knot. ke04 both chose not to be gay, oppose the vp's darling, precious pumpkin from entering into holy matrimony and become one flesh in the eyes of god, and are against a constitutional amendment. they have all seen the light on this issue through prayer and guidance from god.

i know this about the debates:

kerry showed up as the same person all three times. confident, steady, knowledgeable, presidential.

gwb came to debate #1 as a sniveling, whiney, clueless, twitchy, flickery bozo who seemed to think his job was way hard and much too much work.

at debate #2 he appears as a shrill, screechy, angry, clueless bozo. consensus has it that he was much improved.

debate #3. gwb has good posture, square shoulders, unscowly, and prepared to rumble. i am sure that i saw a collection of spit foam in the corner of his mouth.

sprint to the finish line.

OMG WMD WTF

thank you for your time,

cubby (the cubster)

19. The media hates it when Kerry tells the truth about Bush hypocrisy.
The fact that they are so upset means Kerry did the right thing.

20. The GOP is stepping in their own sludge on this one...
Kerry did exactly what he should have done. The Cheney's and the GOP are hanging themselves so long as this stays an "issue". If they are smart (which they are not) they would shut up about the whole thing.
