DU - Home of the truth wizards?
It seems that according to this study, Bush exhibits all of the symptoms of a superliar and we must all be Wizards, since those of us on DU have been able to see through Bush's lies since day one.

Truth Wizards Know Lie When They Hear One

October 14, 2004

<snip>

Of 13,000 people tested for the ability to detect deception, "we found 31, who we call wizards, who are usually able to tell whether the person is lying, whether the lie is about an opinion, how someone is feeling or about a theft," she said.

<snip>

"Basic emotions are hard to conceal completely," O'Sullivan said. People may be afraid of being caught or happy that they are putting something over on another person, so some inappropriate emotion may flicker across their face.

O'Sullivan calls these microexpressions -- changes that last less than a second -- and the people best at catching liars are able to notice them.

The thinking clues occur because it's harder to lie than tell the truth, she said. To lie, people have to make something up. This can lead to hesitations in speech, slips of the tongue, lack of detail in what they are saying.

A group known as "superliars" is aware of those problems, she added, but may overcompensate by talking too fast.

<snip>

Look for shrugs: "is someone telling you something very positive and shrugs in the middle," she said. Watch body posture, hand gestures, eye flutters.

1. May be something to that.
I remember the link somebody posted several months ago, I'm pretty sure it was here, to a 'real smile/fake smile' visual test on a British TV science show's web site. Most people did about average -- eight to twelve out of 21. Some did rather poorly, and some did from moderately to exceptionally well -- as high as 20 out of 21.

If I recall, I pegged somewhere between 16 and 18. I couldn't even tell you how I did it -- I just know that there are certain things that go with other things, and when you don't get them all, the person is being deceptive.

You can tell when Bush* is lying -- his lips are moving.

2. I don't know about this. I've seen folks who were found out to be liars
who didn't have any of the characteristics mentioned in the link to your post. People who could lie so easily without any detectable body language..no shrugs, twitches or whatever. In fact the best liars are so hard to detect because they ARE so believable.

If Bush was a Democrat...I would see his likeability. He's such a clueless idiot you want to help him along, thinking all his talk about "hugging your neighbor" and wanting "freedom to ring" around the world is sort of clueless but charming. He has alot of animation which to someone like me is preferable to Kerry's cool aloofness which may really just be a shyness rather than what I see.

It's Bush's actions in his past and his handlers and family background which proves he's a liar. The "Selection 2000" and living through his Poppy's term and what the Repugs have done through Nixon on which makes me not believe a word he says.

His body language to me shows a conflicted person who isn't comfortable in his own skin in this job his "handlers" foisted on him. His twitches and grimaces and pouts and snarkyness are all signs of someone in mental turmoil. :shrug: that's just my opinion.
