Nightline caught them interviewing Vietnemese in an attempt to find more dirt on Kerry. the Swift boat liars hid info they got because it backed Kerry.

And nightline went out there and called them on it. GREAT.

3. Now is it more understandable

to those who were ready to, or were, firing off angry emails to Koppel, that we have to draw the line somewhere when one of the highest regarded figures in television news is going to do a piece to corroborate or destroy true facts?

I'm proud to say I stuck by Ted Koppel's proven integrity and said so in my posts. And I can tell you he made O'Neil turn pale white, caught in his own lies. I thought that's exactly what was going to happen. O'Neil was stammering like O.J. Simpson, and knew he was being literally humiliated on one of the most watched nighttime tv shows in America.

I close by saying, I had that confidence because of two things. John Kerry is the salt of the earth and I have never seen a man of national prominence that more exudes the very definition of truth and honesty. Second, I have never seen Ted Koppel report anything but the truth.

If this report had confirmed that John Kerry's version of events, were not confirmed as indicated in the after-action report, by these people who were witnesses that day, I would have respected Ted Koppel for reporting it.

It is a happy day. That Swift Boat slug has just been exposed for what he is. Five feet of SHIT !

4. John O'Neill's Waterloo

He got exposed on national TV. Tried to pretend that the books he relies on are Scripture- 'Who ya gonna believe- the distortions and idiocies of my Holy Book or those lying Communist filth simple peasants without an agenda and John Kerry and the American and VC military commanders who were all actually there?'

He definitely had a William Jennings Bryant-on-the-stand-at-the-Scopes Trial experience. Inherit the Wind, baby. Hope he doesn't have a heart attack tonight....

But why didn't Koppell take the tact with him "Well, they weren't a closed-society and not worth interviewing when YOU sent people there, why should they be when ABC sent people there?"

I mean, O'Neill's only line of defense was the people weren't credible because they were from a closed-society. So why did HE try to get info from them then? Koppell didn't really pursue that point.

It seems Nightline's people couldn't/didn't get conclusive evidence for who that fellow was, in the first place, in Vietnam. (I'm sure they would have mentioned the name if they had.) Secondly, Nightline would have need to trace him to SBVfT. Absent strong evidence for both it makes it possible for O'Neill to (falsely) deny everything and charge Koppel with a fabrication that derails the thrust of the effort.

Of course, if O'Neill had gotten evidence useful to him out of Vietnam he would pretend that these are perfect and unbiased witnesses. The truth is not the important thing to him because SBVfT appeals to irrational, defensive, ideas about Vietnam- for Americans unable to bear that it was a mud fight whose meaning got lost in the brutishness of it all, SBVfT serves the deluded idea of American Messianism. (AM-the fact of being American and being sent out by the True American government- Nixon- ensures that everything done in e.g. Vietnam was all done from pure motives and in the purest possible way, and would have led to the attainment of Victory and Utopia... if it hadn't been for The Traitors Among Us.)
