ignorant people for Kerry |
|
yep, they exist. I've met quite a few. Here's a prime example:
girl who just turned 18. Very happy she gets to vote. And she's voting for Kerry. Why? Well she disagrees with him on aborton and agrees with *. She's "100% pro-life."
Religous intrusion on state? She thinks we need more. The whole "We took God out of schools and government and morality started falling and that's why everything is so screwed up today, blah blah blah" school of thought.
Iraq? Well she thought it was a good idea because Saddam was such a dictator, etc. Did * screw up the reconstruction though? Well she admits it's going bad now but thinks things will improve soon.
What about jobs and the economy? Well she admitted she knows barely anything about that area and doesn't have an opinion.
So why is she voting for Kerry? She "just doesn't like *." Hmmm. Or maybe she's been brainwashed by mainstream pop culture which while I usually hate does tend to be rather anti-* today.
Now the question: is it best to simply let these people go and vote Kerry, or educate them? Or is this simply a case where a vote for Kerry, no matter what the reason is good? I'm going to unfortunately have to lean toward the latter, no matter how stupid a person voting for Kerry is, I thank them. Since plenty of idiots will be voting for * for idiotic reasons, anything to balance them out.

1. Well, I guess it's good news |
|
It's kind of reassuring to know that even the idiotic break both ways.

You have to take a more fluid approach- not only seeing her vote this election, but in elections for years to come. As you said, she is just ignorant, not impervious to the facts. Sit her down and watch F9/11.

3. The only ones that piss me are the "lesser of two evils" |
|
idiots. These are the same nitwits that describe themselves as "fiscal conservative social moderate", whatever the hell that means.

When you dig deeper they are typically wretched rw monsters who hate all the new deal stuff, not "moderate" at all.

5. don't keep closing after you got the sale...however... |
|
my guess is you will still know and talk with this girl after the election...you can make if fun for her by going to the polls with her (to make sure she does go AND to get all "geeked" about voting for Kerry)
later after election you can turn her on to other ideological shifts she might want to consider.

14. An example of OUR idiocy |
|
would be a DUer asking if s/he should spend some time in the last two weeks of a campaign educating someone who is going to vote for Kerry.
Yeah, right! That's a priority!!!

10. She just turned 18... |
|
She wasn't politically aware when things were good under Clinton. She's too young to have personally experienced the social and enconomic decline of the past four years. She hasn't any perspective with which to judge Bush. And anyone that age who thinks that "morality" has declined because "we took God out of the schools" is only parroting her elders.
Leave her be, for now. A vote for Kerry from an idiot counts the same as an informed vote, an anti-Bush vote, a pro-Kerry vote or any other motivation that gets the box marked for our side. Educate her later.

12. She's rebelling against her parents |
|
Dictator Daddy likely wants her to vote for Furious George, so like the teenager she is, she's prone to vote Kerry to spite her dad.
