McCain: Daughter Says How Could You Support Bush!
Senator John McCain is quoted in this week's Life magazine about his daughter Meghan's reaction to McCain campaigning for Bush:

"I received a voicemail . "Dad, how could you? I've never been so angry at you. How could you embarrass me this way? None of my friends will speak to me. I'm so mad at you. I can't talk anymore. Click."

1. Just because McCain is campaigning
Doesn't mean he'll cast his vote Bush's way! Obviously his daughter won't be.

8. So what!
Who cares about McCain's single vote. How many votes is he getting for Bush with all the back patting and support!

He is either completely spineless, being threatened or looking for a 2008 run himself.

52. 2008 and nothing but
If he stuck with Kerry or even stayed neutral, the Republicans would never ever nominate him (might not anyway), but his best chance is to be the loyalist. It is all about 2008.

36. True, but he has been seen with the shrimp too many times
Thursday he was on the news from AIR 1 with shrub's arm around him while sjrub talked to reporters.
He did not look like he wanted to be there, he kept looking up and rolling his eyes and sighing.
I thought, If you don't want to be there then buy your own ticket.
The bush's must have something on this man.

43. Good point, LynntheDem.
During the primaries in 2000, especially the run-up to the South Carolina primary, the Bush team went after McCain especially hard, and it was mind-numbingly sleazy -- lies about his family, his sex life, his stance on breast cancer research, etc.

Many of us at DU have wondered aloud whether the Bushes have something on McCain which forces him to get on board. What did the Bushes do, hold one of the McCain children hostage or something? The authors of a book on Karl Rove and Bush suggest that it's loyalty to the party and that of course McCain and Bush despise each other.

Anyway, Mark Leibovich's article from today's Washington Post finally captures the viciousness of Bush-Cheney rally crowds in a way no article has previously done. And look how they treat McCain.

THat's great. His daughter has some dignity, unlike her father. McCain is a pathetic fool. He sold out his family for the love of his party members...

Either he's been promised something great, or he's a freakin masochist.

9. I always wonder if the Bushes have some type of dirt on him
Or on someone in his family, that they are holding over his head. He always looks so uncomfortable whenever he's with Bush.

Good for his daughter! And good for him for mentioning it to "Life".

but when your term is up you have to support me. Face it, Cheney is not going to run...I actually wish he would. Bob Dole all over again, yet worse. I am disgusted with John McCain. He sold his soul to the rethugs.

And go home and look his family in the face every evening? If it was my husband, and the father of my child, be she adopted or not... his life would be most miserable at this point. It gives me great pleasure when I reflect on the possibility of this scenario. Which is probably the case. You don't walk all over a Mother's child without dire consequences.

15. i feel the same way
i thought mccain had some dignity and served a higher purpose. no, i didn't agree with him on many issues but he seemed to stand for more than partisan politics. once he started his bush support, i lost all respect for the man. and sent him a letter to that effect.

where once i might have considered voting for him and even considered the rumors of him being kerry's running-mate an interesting if not supportable idea, i WILL NEVER vote for mccain.

18. ahhhh, the 'Great Uniter' strikes again
This scenario has been played out in families all over America. Thanks to the right-wing, this country is more fractured, more divided, more hostile to the other side - and yet, our Fearful Leader didn't have one positive solution to healing this divide in the third debate. If anything, his current campaign tactics are widening it. After all, I'm a liberal and I'm SICK TO DEATH of being smeared for it by the so-called POTUS.

McCain, welcome to the America you're helping create by working for this evil man. Eat shit.

LOOK at what the chimp did to McCain in the 2000 primary. Yesterday I saw a news clip of the chimp, Mrs. stepford, John McCain and his wife, walking out of a restaurant in AZ and Mrs. McCain actually put her arm around the Bush's for a photo op! SICK! Those people tried to destroy her and her husband and now they're all kissy face? :puke: Totally disgusting. I feel sorry for McCain's daughter. I would be embarrassed too.

In 2000 Kkkarl Rove snipped off McCain's balls and presented them to * as a trophy. * keeps then in a little traveling case in a back holster.

If McCain tolls the line * has promised to give them back after the election. The funny look on McCain's face when when he sits behind Bush at rallies and stares at the the lump in the jacket containing the missing jewels is ... well its pretty pathetic actually.

McCain is screwed. He has supported Bush enough, now that he knows it's a losing cause, he can't go back on it. His whole thing is based on 'honesty' and he can't say, now "Bush is a weenie" Plus, if Kerry wins, and the Dems take the Senate, you think John McCain will have any power at all? he's hitched his Star to Bush, and he's power hungry enough to ride it on down.

Not everyone follows politics as much as we do.

This is a man whose DAUGHTER was maligned by the Bush people.

The GOP wants to bitch about Mary Cheney, I wish McCain would say something about when HIS young child was talked about by his own party. But he won't. He's got problems.

He has sold his soul to the party even though that party has attacked his family. Obviously, the "party" deserves more of his loyalty than his own family. He is really a screwed up, pathetic man.

There is no respect in my mind for McCain.

He lacks the ability to get in touch with his soul, regardless of the consequences. He is just another spin doctor for the liar Bush and would put Bush ahead of his own wife and his children.

McCain knows perfectly well that Bush is a foul piece of filth and a miserable failure as president. But McCain has chosen to sacrifice all personal honor and integrity, and even refuse to defend his wife and children, just for the sake of political power. McCain is a failure as a Senator, as a husband, as a father, and as a man.
