Poll question: Should President Kerry pardon GW Bush for perjury in front of Congress? |
|
Should President Kerry pardon GW Bush for perjury in front of Congress? I am thinking it might help to heal the wounds GWB inflicted on this nation.

1. Go after everyone like Moon & the Iran-Contra crooks |
|
That's the good thing on Kerry's record, prosecuting people.

2. pardon him and you make him look like the slimy, petty criminal |
|
that he is.
imprison him and you elevate him to the status of criminals who actually headed a country, like saddam or kim jong.
make him squirm a little, let him send his boys in to beg for mercy, then cast him off with the promise he'll never irritate us again.

He has headed a country. He may have come to power in what is best described as a velvet coup, but he is the head of the country. The manner is which he came to power is all the more reason why he should not be regarded as a petty criminal.
Mr. Bush has undermined that country's commitment to an international rule of law. He has sought to circumvent the Third and Fourth Geneva Conventions on the treatment of prisoners of war and other detainees and the rule of occupied territory; he has sought to circumvent international treaties against torture and inhumane treatment of prisoners taken in war by establishing an offshore Gulag system that he claims, incredibly, is beyond the reach of any jurisdiction; he has undermined the Chart of the United Nations by invading a sovereign state without just cause and continually lying about the justification for that act, both before and after the fact.
Mr. Bush is no petty criminal. He is in a class with Saddam Hussein and should be treated as the war criminal that he is.

3. If Nixon had gone to prison . . . |
|
. . . do you think the neocons would've gone so far?
I don't think so. I think holding the highest officer holder in the land accountable for high crimes will set a precedent that will make future office holders less willing to commit crimes.

6. Did Bush testify to Congress? I'm not sure SOTU is testimony, per se. |
|
But it'd be nice to see if we had the goods on a few other officials. But it can't be done simply as political payback. You really need to have a strong case before criminalizing political behavior. That said, full investigations seem appropriate.

10. If Kerry pardons any of those guys, I'll put together a group of Democrats |
|
to demand his resignation. I'll even lead the march on Washington demanding his resignation. These guys belong in jail and they better go there.
