If Mary Beth Cahill said that Mary Cheney was a fair game - she was wrong
I think that it is important to highlight the duplicity of Republicans who vote only on matters that are close to them. Cheney would have supported a Constitutional Amendment were it not for a gay daughter. Just as many Republicans support stem cells research because a family member can be helped by it.

And I wish that all our pundits, including Cahill and Brazil - yesterday on Crossfire - pointed out this issue instead of the cynical words "fair game." It was not about the Cheney's daughter, it was about Cheney himself.

1. NOBODY ATTACKED MARY CHENEY
If calling Mary Cheney "One of God's Children" and "Just Being Herself" is an attack, then the world has been turned upside down,

3. Show us ONE item
that suggests what you are saying is true. Show one quote where Cahill said " Mary Cheney was fair game". Show it, otherwise shut up!

Kerry said it as a goodwill gesture. If people have a problem with their own child's sexual orientation that is something they have to work on. If these same people want to make political hay out of this involving their own child they are beyond sick in the head. You know what though that is exactly what's happening. These people are sick to their very core. Nothing is off the table for them!

4. To be fair, she did say it
to Chris Wallace on fox after the debate. But I think this whole story is hooey....the press wanted SOMETHING and they are just waiting for another story to take its place.

7. I said "if" and your reaction is very juvenile
Here is the reference, from the WP

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A34929-2004Oct15.html

Almost immediately, Republicans expressed outrage at Kerry's mention of Mary Cheney. Some accused Kerry of raising her name in an effort to sway voters who might be put off by homosexuality, and criticized a statement by Kerry campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill on Fox News that the vice president's daughter is 'fair game.'. . . .

She supposedly said it on Fox News which I do not watch, that's why I stared with IF. For you to blame the messenger is childish and certainly cannot help us winning.

11. well it's time for Cahill
to go away. Any person in her position willing to say something like this is a major liability, hence why some of Clintons team were brought in and she lost leader status.

If it's "juvenile" to shake people up and get them off the doom and gloom scenarios I except that tag with full honors!

6. As I said before, John Kerry showed more affection and respect
for Mary Cheney than her own parents have.

If anyone is to blame, it's Bob Schieffer for asking the question. I mean, it's not like he didn't know Mary Cheney is gay.

And if anyone else is to blame, it's the Cheneys, for not saying anything when bizarro-man Alan Keyes called their daughter a selfish hedonist.

Then again, maybe they don't think "selfish hedonist" is an insult!

Tansy Gold, who is straight but has been a selfish hedonist herself on MANY occasions! ;-)

10. I like what Elizabeth Edwards had to say about it.
''It indicates a certain degree of shame with respect to her daughter's sexual preferences that I'm certain makes her daughter uncomfortable," Elizabeth Edwards said. ''That makes me very sad on a personal level."

Too bad more people can't understand like Elizabeth does.

13. My my my ,what has a nation come to when this hooey becomes
the talking point of the day and goes on and on. Cheney's just picked up on something to distract and suck the air out of the real issues and the rat pack media obliges by keeping it going. The media drives these non issues and lies and until it is dealt with this is the kind of bullsh-- you get.

14. Kerry himself told a reporter Mary Beth was wrong
http://www.dmregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20041015/NEWS09/410150395/1001&lead=1

It's in the mp3 files on the right.

Q: Do you regret what you said about Cheney's daughter?

Reporter: She was asked about this and said that Mary Cheney is ‘fair game.’ I wonder if you agree with that, if Mary Cheney is fair-

Kerry: No, I don’t like that characterization. I did not know she said that.

We had a big screamer on the phone this AM and she thinks it was so wrong of him, screaming at me, you dont get it, you dont have a daughter (she does) and if anyone used my daughters name on tv, blah blah blah. Of course Im yelling back HE DIDNT ATTACK HER! He didnt say she was a serial killer, a child molester, a pervert, nothing! What's your problem? Dont you see the Repukes are USING HER as a political wedge??? That's fucking WORSE. I could not convince her and she OF COURSE cited Rueters/Zogby and said JK is paying the price. I was like MOM!!!!!!! Dont you see that is the ONLY poll MSRNC is reporting on their ticker?? They show NONE where JK is ahead?

I couldnt make ANY headway, and she HATES Smirk. :eyes:
