Poll question: Poll 2 - anybody but |
|
I screwed up the last one, I thought the "anybody but" would appear above the poll, so here's the new one...
I've made no secret of the fact that find the level of acrimony between candidates' supporters disturbing. I think it will cost Democrats far more in the election than it gains our candidate in the primary. So, here's a poll to give myself a reality check. (I admit I might be seeing problems that really aren't there.)
If my candidate is NOT the nominee, I'll vote for ANYBODY BUT:

This is a divisive and unnecessary poll bain_sidhe.
I think the constant attacks on candidates are divisive and unnecessary. We can argue issues and promote our candidate with out calling the other candidates slimeballs, flip-floppers, republicans, and gott knows what else. This poll has borne out my suspicions - the candidates with the highest "anybody but" numbers are the two candidates whose supporters most frequently attack the other candidate.

That Dean supporters are always grilled, their loyalty suspect and what have we here? What have we here...
That should put the kibosh on sock puppets and calls to the blogs for reenforcements... Or a trips back to the home blog to report on the latest anti-Dean strategy.

|
Edited on Mon Jan-12-04 06:42 PM by bain_sidhe
It's my cry in the darkness... "Why can't you SEE..."?
Yes, I'm frustrated, and maybe this poll was ill advised, but ...well, why can't you SEEEEEEEEEE
That when Dean supporters trash Clark, they're hurting DEAN!
That when Clark supporters trash Dean, they're hurting CLARK!
It's not that MOST supporters won't vote for the other candidate, it's that every time we make ONE supporter so angry they'll REFUSE to vote for the candidate whose supporters trashed their candidate, we're just GIVING a vote to Bush. And even if they vote, how HARD will they work for the other candidate? It's the one street left uncanvassed, the one call left unmade, the one check left unsent... all because the voter is harboring hard feelings because of the trashing supporters of the eventual nominee gave their (losing) candidate.
But, tell you what, I'll alert on my own poll, and leave it to the moderaters to decide whether it should be removed or not.
**edit: left a word out**

29. Is that a fact? In this particular case it is NOT a loyalty oath |
|
but the fault of those bad uncooperative Dean supporters who don't fall in line to salute the General and would think to ask all those inconvenient questions, bringing up uncomfortable issues of concern to progressives...Except, of course, when the Dean supporters are singled out, called on the carpet and subject to poll after poll to declare the loyalty and bullied for their lack of allegience. This is a progressive website? Somebody pinch me, an administrator defending a ABD movement and you are pleading with the posters for greater tolerance?

Well, since the moderators decided not to lock this thread, I'll answer...
but the fault of those bad uncooperative Dean supporters who don't fall in line to salute the General and would think to ask all those inconvenient questions
It isn't ME that gave Dean nearly twice as many votes as Clark. I'm just as unhappy - no, MORE unhappy - that Clark supporters engage in bashing, because I feel they're hurting MY candidate.
I know nothing about administrators coming out for ABD, and I don't support ABD myself. But, I'll tell ya, I've been tempted on occasion. And who's pleading for "greater tolerance"? You can do what you want. Bash away if it floats your boat. I'm just pointing out that the bashers are hurting their OWN candidates by doing it. If you feel that's directed at you, maybe it's your conscience saying it. It's certainly not me.

23. Is EVERY POLL a battleground for Clark/Dean feuders?!? |
|
How can we be expected to help Restore the Old Republic when we can't even save ourselves.
I'd like to think the poll is heat-of-the-moment posturing. Frankly, I happily support EITHER Clark or Dean! And support either one with my cash, with my time...
If these and the other Clark/Dean flamefest indicate a trut, well then we are doomed before we start.
And THIS time, the Emperor may actually win by himself (I am convinced that a 10% Democratic Victory would result in a "dead heat" too close to call, if you know what I mean) in addition to the cheating...in which case it will be a landslide.
That's why Uncle Karl predicted a 7% Bushevik landslide in 2000. He assumed the nation was equally divided and so their "cheats" would be the margin of victory. I think he was stunned that they were so far behind that even WITH the nominal cheating they had STILL had to steal the election.
But I have gotten off on a tangent. I just wanted to say that the crazy Clark/Dean Flame Wars that often spill onto polls like these are discouraging and depressing.
And I am hoping that poll is patently false.

I think Edwards is the second choice of many Democrats. If he is acceptable as this poll indicates, he could emerge as our best candidate.

The more I learn about him the more he looks like another Bush to me. I don't know but I'd rather stay home and risk 4 more years of Bush than risk a potential 8 years of someone I suspect will be just as bad, if not worse.

I will vote Green or Independent if Clark wins, but would vote for Kerry or Edwards if they are the nominees and certainly Kucinich, my number two candidate. Gephardt and Lieberman, I don't know.
The problem that I have with Clark and to a large extent Lieberman is that it does the Democratic party a diservice to have a Republican type Democrat stifle the potential left shift in the party that we need. Worse, I fear that they will largely carry out the PNAC for the neocons.

42. Well, Bush should definitely be a choice |
|
in the poll. You'd see a different result.
But I beg to differ. A vote for someone other than Dean is not a vote for Bush. If the dems choose to nominate a divisive candidate, and don't get voters' backing, we made the choice. As a matter of fact, a vote for anyone else at this point will help make sure we don't have to make that choice come November, or face that consequence.
And yes, if I have to, I will vote for the doctor. I am any democrat over bush. I just respect the rest of the party's right to vote their conscience, where ever it leads them. Even if it leads them to Dean.
