Each time the words "Mary Cheney" are spoken or written...
...ten thousand fundamentalist Christians are swayed to stay home instead of casting their vote on Election Day.

I'm surprised so few here can see that this is part of the Kerry campaign's strategy to split bush* from his base. Rove has stated that four million fundies stayed home last time and that if they can get them out this time victory is in the bag. He's probably right. That's the reason for the secret code talk about Dred Scott in the debate.

Each day more and more come to see this man as a False Prophet. His running mate is pro-gay? If God is directing him then why has failed so miserably? Why has everything gone so wrong?

This election will be won by GOTV. Mentioning Mary drives the stake a little deeper in the division between bush* and his base. He has succeeded in peeling back some his opponent's base without damaging support from his own or from the uncommitteds.

I think it will be THEIR side that puts an end to this story first. Two days is more than enough...

1. So now I understand that both YOU and the RNC wants to talk about lesbians
You didn't think it was a coincidence that ALL the right-wing pundits on cable were all talking about the same thing, did you?

5. Not at all--but as so often happens, they screwed it up
They don't understand that most people don't consider being openly gay a hurtful, shameful item. To them, its like bringing up, oh, Jeb's daughters problems.

10. No, they didn't "screw it up" - They minimized their loss
bush* denied saying that he doesn't think about OBL. And they got us to forget about that and concentrate on lesbians, which gains us no votes.

I suspect we're doing well with the lesbian vote.

2. Agree--and that's why Bush backers are so angry
Its a stunt that works. The righties WANT the Cheneys to be ashamed of their daughter--the equivalent of dirty laundry, not acknowledged in polite company. Kerry and Edwards bringing up Mary puts the Cheneys on the spot, again and again and again.

Bushies hate that. They hate that they can't skip past their hypocrisy.

4. I think our side should shut up about it and let them keep
bringing it up...I think we (the dem party and others who are just not able to vote for bush) are solidly behind John Kerry..know what he was trying to say..and don't find offense in speaking about gay rights...

let them argue about this...Kerry came out with a statement yesterday..that should be enough...WE need to drop it

7. Mary Cheney has been an official GOP lesbian activist and she holds a high
paying job in the Bush Cheney campaign.
"In 2002, Mary Cheney served on the advisory board of the Republican Unity Coalition, a gay-straight alliance formed within the Republican party to help increase tolerance within the party for gays and lesbians, and others."
http://www.gaylesbiantimes.com/?id=2431&issue=851

And before that didn't she work for the White House?

And before that didn't she work for the Bush Cheney 2000 campaign?

And before that didn't she work for Coors in a gay/lesbian liason position?

Mentioning her sexual orientation is not talking about her private life, it is talking about her professional life.

9. So, you're saying that Kerry bringing up Mary Cheney was a good move?
What??? NO! NO!!! It can't be true!!! I, I... was having so much fun picking on the campaign for it and lambasting the media.... what'll I do now... (sob)...

I do think you have a point, though. If the media keeps talking about it, most of the country will tune out because seriously, who cares if Mary Cheney is a lesbian? Most people will say "Why are they so insulted?", except for the freeps and fundies, who will be continually reminded, as you point out, that their idol has a big "sinner" in his family and he can't do anything about it.
