MSNBC story re "odd" Cheney family behavior on the campaign trail.
The reporter following Cheney did a story about how (surprise!) they seem to be encouraging this story about Mary and giving her a higher profile then normal.

The reporter said Mary doesn't like to be on TV and avoids it. Yesterday, the reporter was filming Mary and the campaign came over and told her to stop. At campaign stops, Mary isn't part of the group that usually is out front. She is a behind the scenes person - she runs operations.

Well today when they all got off their bus for a campaign stop, Mary got off with them for all the cameras, this isn't normal. However, when the rest of the family walked into the building, Mary walked off to the side. She was just there for the little photo op.

Did anyone else see this story on MSNBC? This is what I heard but I didn't hear the very beginning of the story. The reporter was definitely pointing out how they seem to be saying and doing two different things.

3. How sad to have a dad who thinks
nothing of killing innocents to further his cause of world domination.

And to have a mother who is an evil witch.

7. How very sad to be excluded from your family.
Whether it's to keep up appearances or that's the way Mary wants it.

My heart breaks for her.

6. or she loves her father
and wants to help him. Strange as it might be to think that someone can love Dick Cheney, that does seem to the case.

15. actually to be completely fair
Cheney has never said anything except that it is an issue for the states to decide. He obviously disagrees with his boss on this issue, and problably made some noise about it inside the White house, but once the policy was annouced, he shut up. You will notice he has never said anything in favour of the "amandment" in fact he continues to say that he disagrees with his boss on this issue. In this White House, the fact that he talks about it is impressive.

Frankly, I agree with Cheney that marriage is a state issue. Let the reactionary states pass laws and amendments against something that was never going to affect them anyway. The states that have been dealing with this issue for 15 years (Oregon, California, Mass, etc) aren't going to pass consitutional amendments banning the practice. Let the talent and resources flow to the open states. In ten years (patience is a virute) as companies in the states that ban gay marriage realize that they are effectivly eliminating ten percent of the workforce from their recruiting, it'll change. Democracies are slow to evolve, it takes time. Frankly, most of the country isn't ready yet for gay marriage and forcing it on them will creat a backlash of violence and hatred. But the train is coming, and it is inoxerable. in 15 years, we will all look at the anti-gay marraige amendments as historical artifacts, liek the laws against more than five women living together or the laws against interracial dating and marriage (tell a ten year old that blacks and whites couldn't get married in Virginia, and they'll ask "why? that's stupid." time moves on, and it will sweep the dinosaurs of bogtry with it, as it always does.

This doesn't mean that we should not fight tooth and nail againd state amendments, and especially a consitutional amanedment (which will never be ratified, even if it passes.) we should, and I will continue to do so. time waits for no man (or woman)

By the way, I support and volunteer for the Kerry Cmapaign. I have donated hard earned cash. I spend four hours every night calling voters in swing staes to urge them to support Kerry. And yet, I find his support for the death penatly to be innexcusable and disgusting. But I support him on most everything else, so I am willing to overlook this serious and egregious civil rights violation to support him. Every time the state kills someone in my name for vengance, a little piece of all of us dies. It is the sign of a sick society. You complain about Mary Cheney supporting her father, and him supporting Bush, when they disagree on this issue. that issue is whether people can legally marry and entwine their property with the recognition of the state. My civil rights issue is about people getting KILLED. which is a worse sin to overlook?

11. What I'm wondering is why the hell isn't Mary Cheney
Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 01:27 PM by rmpalmer
saying how she feels that K&E brought her name up at the debates? Is she outraged?

Why the hell does a 35-year old woman need her parents to speak for her? I sure as hell didn't have my parents fighting my battles at that age.

And yet I haven't heard that mentioned by any of the outraged pundits or talk show callers.

And I was sad to hear this topic dominate 2+ hours each show of local liberal talk radio yesterday and today.

21. Here is something someone posted a thread on which shows why they
are exploiting this: (It is from a Repub web site)

"Sunday I will be part of a GOP team going to nursing and retirement homes and having people absentee vote. Will be doing this for next 3 weekends. We have already been instructed to bring Kerry's outing of Cheney"s daughter up with the voters. I will report back later how the issue is playing. What low, gutter type people Edwards and Kerry are. My guess is that this is a sub-terrainian issue that has the potential to hurt the democratic ticket. We shall see."
