his show didn't cover the last two presidential debates. I thought that was odd, missing out on such great opportunities. But then, I've also thought it was odd (and probably do to corporate pressure) that he's had so many GOP guests this year...

And Jon has had a good balance of Republicans and Democrats, and quite honestly, I like it when he has pukes on because he does a great job in showing how totally inept they are.

I pray that he won't allow this "Mary" nonsense to go beyond the first introductory statement. I regret that 'The Daily Show' isn't on this week; they would have snuffed it quickly... and nudged the media back to the real issues.

26. Stewart said that Crossfire was excruciating |
|
That it pretended to be debate when it was really theater. And that's bad because we need debate right now.
Tucker kept trying to say that Stewart didn't ask Kerry tough questions when he was on, so who is Jon to criticize.
Jon's general argument: You guys are on CNN. Our lead-in shows is puppets making crank calls. And if your big argument in response to me is that you're at least better than a fake news show on a comedy network, then this country is in a lot of trouble. And if you're going to compare yourself to a comedy show, you really ought to shoot for Seinfeld, because they're funny. That's a good show. Ours isn't.
Tucker complained about Jon lecturing him, and at one point whined "I thought you were gonna be funny." Thing is, the crowd seemed to think what Jon was saying was pretty funny.

I think he also means Carville and Novak. All the Crossfire hosts. They are letting the public down by kissing up to the politicians and being part of their strategies. They are theatre, not news. They are refusing to do their real jobs and ignoring their responsibilities. They are missing the great opportunity to help the public. We need them and they're not doing their jobs.
Paraphrased, but that's what Stewart had to say. Total smackdown.

Stewart should point out that homophobes are more likely to be aroused by homosexual behavior than non-homophobes. Study after stydy has shown that. We all know that Tucker is a homophobe.

43. Re: hump -- I got the impression that at first he didn't hear the question |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 04:14 PM by Gloria
then, perhaps feigned not knowing because he wanted to hear something from the host. Begala jumped in and passed off as a "rumple"...Stewart looked like he wasn't buying it all...You could see his eyes were narrowed and he was holding back...He said, "I see." Begala explaining it as a "rumple" is probably the least believable explanation!
I can't believe Stewart didn't know about all the controversy since it made the NYTimes and WaPo as well as Salon. I'm sure he reads the big papers and we know he's got CNN, etc. on all the time and Zahn, for example, on CNN covered it.
I frankly think he had already written off both Carlson and Begala and just wanted to see how they would answer. I got the feeling he's cynical enough to want to watch the spin and SMART enough to not give away his hand if there's a chance the TDS may pick this up in a show when they are back to new episodes...

Where do you go after the debates?
Tucker: "to the men's room"
No, after that.
Begala: "Home."
No, you go to Spin Alley. Don't you think that is kind of a drag for people at home? For you to go to Deception Lane?

|
Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 04:03 PM by txindy
not hit them on this show! He is being very, very serious and obviously believes the things he is telling them about their show. They do not take him seriously, Carlson, in particular. Tells Jon to "Come on, be funny!" That earned him the response, "No, I will not be your monkey."
Jon isn't here for giggles. He means business and they're not listening. Not even when they're quiet.
Jeez, does Paul Begala really believe his friends who work for Junior truly believe what they say about that admin.? He says they do. Example: After the first debate and they tried to spin it *'s way, they truly believed he won. What the...? NOBODY is THAT stupid! That claim did earn him the Jon Stewart Look of Derision, though.
