Kerry Says Bush 'Out of Touch' with Americans

MILWAUKEE (Reuters) - Democratic Sen. John Kerry accused President Bush of being "out of ideas, out of touch and unwilling to change" as he kicked off the "closing arguments" portion of his White House bid on Friday.

Speaking at a campaign rally at Milwaukee Area Technical College, Kerry detailed a litany of mistakes made by Bush that has left the economy lackluster, hurt living standards for average Americans and made the Republican the first president in 72 years not to create a single job while in office.

"As President Reagan once said, facts are stubborn things," Kerry told a packed auditorium. "This economy has a bad case of the flu and we need a new medicine."

"George Bush has had four years to do something about it, anything to create an economy where hard working Americans can live out their dreams. But," he said, "he squandered the opportunity."

Bush, he said, "either doesn't understand what's happening to the average family in America or, he understands and he just doesn't care."
