Lockhart Statement on Rove Testifying about Plame "Outing"
Lockhart Statement on Rove Testifying in CIA Leak Case
For Immediate Release

In response to reports that Karl Rove testified before the grand jury investigating the CIA leak case, Kerry-Edwards campaign Senior Adviser Joe Lockhart issued the following statement:

“With two weeks to go before the election, the American people are still in the dark about how it is that their White House leaked the name of an undercover CIA operative to the press, jeopardizing the life of this agent and possibly violating federal law.

“Instead of hiding behind the lawyers he so often likes to criticize, George Bush should direct Karl Rove and anyone else involved to go to the White House briefing room and come clean about their role in this insidious act. If the president sincerely wanted to get to the bottom of this potential crime, he’d stop the White House foot dragging and fully cooperate with this investigation.”

2. Good. Important point - chimpy HAS to know who did it
The Ugly Vampire reported that somebody in the WH told him. Very few people in the WH would have that kind of info. We all know that chimpy knows who did it because we know that chimpy or chainsaw ordered it.

But even generally clueless Americans should be able to figure out that chimpy must know, if the press bothered to mention a few pertinent facts.

5. Let's call it what it is - treason.
Ms. Plame was not in the secretarial pool at CIA, she was the real deal and she was engaged in one of CIA's most important priorities....tracking down trafficers in stolen WMD. How did this exposurereally impact on our national security?

Personally, I wonder if there was not another motive to "out" Ms. Plame....perhaps her work was implicating people close to this pResident? While the story has been spun as "payback" for Joe Wilson exposing the Nigerian yellowcake scam to justify the Iraqi invasion, did our national security take a hit to protect someone else's personal security?

As President George HW Bush has said (and I paraphrase, there is no higher crime than outing a CIA undersover agent. By his own words, he has set the stakes in this crime.
