That is not the same nutbag guy I remember from the Clinton years.
He's talking about protecting civil liberties!

on issues like drug policy. He does not believe that terminally ill patients should be allowed to smoke marijuana for medicinal affects. He likes mandatory sentencing and three strikes rules - even if they prove to be "cruel and unusual". He loves the idea of building more prisons.
And then there's that nasty issue of the Defense of Marriage Act. I do not know if he still defends it but it stands as one of the biggest loads of crap ever introduced in the House.
EDIT: To his defense, I laud him on his stance concerning privacy issues. He well understand how big a bully the government can be as a former federal prosecutor.

of course that last little bit
Al: Bob will totally agree with me that the bush people have mischaracterized kerry on the patriot act. Right Bob?
Bob: I think we're out of time Al.
Oh yes, still a republican, but maybe one being a little honest now he's out of office

Common occurrence, whenever intelligent Rep's allow their brain to function they get themselves in trouble and have to hit the emergency stop button, happens to McCain all the time.
