The Kerry Cabinet!!
Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 10:51 PM by The Chronicler
Look for team Kerry to start announcing cabinet spots on Nov. 3rd, regardless of whether the election is officially called (the Bush people will try to delay it)

Secretary of State: Richard Holbrooke

Defense Secretary: Sam Nunn

Chief of Staff: Joe Lockhart

UN Ambassador: Gen. Wesley Clark

Natl. Security Advisor: Richard Clarke (DREAM)

Press Secretary: Mike McCurry

23. Not Surgeon General.
The Surgeon General is a position traditionally filled by a physician with a great deal of experience in public health administration. While I'm sure Dr. Dean is a first rate physician, he was a general practitioner, which is not the same thing.

On the other hand, as much as Dr. Dean has contributed to our party, I actually don't think a position in Kerry's cabinet is the best place for him. Personally, I'd like to see him succeed Terry McAuliffe as head of the Democratic National Committee. Dean has shown that he can energize the core of our party like no one since the Big Dawg, and as such, he'd be perfect for that job.

In any case, when John Kerry and John Edwards are standing on the Capitol steps next January, it'll be because Dr. Dean lit a proverbial fire under the Democratic Party. And, I know that men of honor like John Kerry and John Edwards won't forget that. Howard Dean will be repaid in full for what he's done for us. Bank on it.

Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 10:49 PM by Sparkly
That would go a long way toward undoing some of the damage of these clowns.

PS on Edit: Clark should be way higher than that.

13. Surgeon General is a lame ass position
Dean needs to remain untied to any administration and work to rebuild the Democratic party from the ground up. I don't want Dean locked in Washington D.C. I want him in Texas, Montana, Georgia, and everywhere else that the Democratic Party needs a boost.

27. I think Spitzer has other ideas
It's a good idea on paper - Eliot Spitzer has done a great job in NY, and would make a terrific Attorney General (although, he doesn't have a real high standard to exceed compared to the freak in that office now.) Unfortunately, I think he's got his eye on a run against Pataki 2 years from now, and will probably want to stay in NY until then.

25. who better than Clinton
to get our allies back to the table? Dealing with NK and Iran will be in our immediate future, we need an immediate turnaround with our global relationships. Bill's the guy.

I think Kerry's ego would allow for that.

As far as Nader, yes he's been a dickhead. But he also has a life's experience at identifying, exposing and reforming corruption. This is a chance for him to redeem himself for all the good he's done.

31. screw Nader. But the others...
As others have pointed out, Wesley Clark can't be Secretary of Defense, despite his enormous qualifications for that job. I would also suggest switching Mario Cuomo and Bill Clinton. I have a feeling that St. Bill of Arkansas has his eye on another job, however - the only job even coming close to his old one in terms of prestige - Secretary General of the United Nations. Making him UN Ambassador would put him in a good position for that.

Oh, yeah - to hell with Ralph Nader. That monomaniacal jerk hasn't earned anything but our contempt.

29. Richard Clarke stated under oath...
...that he would NOT be working in Kerry's administration. This was during his 9/11 Commission testimony, I believe.
Pity.
But I fully expect that Kerry has been tapping him behind the scenes for a while now. He's not one to allow this country to fall if he can help it. (And with Bush out of the way, a Kerry admin would definitely be more open to his advice.)

I am not a big Lieberman or Breaux fan and I have a better suggestion, New York AG Elliott Spitzer, he's shown an ability to go after corporate crooks. Now of those two that you name, I have to say they are, and Breaux especially are too socially conservative. Lieberman too. Now I agree with you about Graham.

49. Here's who I want, restrictions be damned
Restrictions can be waived. After four years of the Monkeyboy's shit, if the Senate goes Democratic I think they'll let Kerry do almost anything he wants.

Secretary of State: Bill Clinton

Secretary of Defense: Wesley Clark

Press Secretary: Mary Beth Cahill

Attorney General: Elizabeth Edwards

Director of Central Intelligence: Paul Menoher

Chief of Staff: Raymond J. McKnight

Director of the EPA: Ben Cohen

Director of Faith-Based Community Initiatives: any atheist with experience at shutting down organizations will do

Ambassadors: Kerry's ambassadors to all countries need to share two common requirements: they must speak the official language of the country of their posting, and they must be career foreign service officers. Ever since the United States started sending ambassadors abroad, the "good" countries like France and Germany get the president's political patrons as ambassadors and the shitholes get the experienced FSOs. In the post-Bush era, this is not good enough.
