Florida Sets Touch-Screen Recount Rule
http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,1280,-4554621,00.html
excerpts:

``It seems like every time they have a decision to make, somehow they find a way not to come down on the side of voters or the side of protecting the right to vote,'' said Howard Simon, executive director for the American Civil Liberties Union in Florida.

The state did not take up the suggestion of providing the paper ballot option, saying it didn't make logistical sense. It also did not agree to give up oversight of a recount.

In sum, the voter rights 'activists' wanted a federal court to oversee a recount if there is one but the state wouldn't allow it.

the rule also sets guidelines for a 'recount' on the touch screen machines which are useless.

edited for spelling

6. "If the numbers do not match up,
the machines will be checked for problems. If the discrepancy remains, elections officials will rely on the original machine count."

Well, now, they'd pretty much have to since there is NOTHING ELSE TO COUNT!

What's this 'undervote' crap? With these machines I worry about the preprogrammed negative vote; about the extra line of code that flips every 21st Dem vote to a Rep vote; the simple fact that there is no paper trail.

A REPRINT IS NOT A RECOUNT!
