Tucker Carlson Speaks out about Jon Stewart
Arrogant as always:

Carlson On Stewart: "What A Boor"
CNN Crossfire host Tucker Carlson was taken aback by Jon Stewart's rant on the debate show today. "I've never seen a more sanctimonious comedian," he says in an e-mail to TVNewser. "What a boor."

I asked Carlson if Stewart had "slammed" the two hosts. "Slammed us? The transcript may read that way," he said. "But I think the tape makes it clear he humiliated himself."

23. Of course not.
That's their modus operandi. Smuggins had nothing at the debates, but he had plenty to say afterward, when there was no one around to ram it down his throat. The lot of them are a bunch of clueless, spineless and cowardly assholes.

Edited on Sat Oct-16-04 07:19 AM by beaconess
Not with you - AT you. On tape. Loud:

CARLSON: Jon, Jon, Jon, I'm sorry. I think you're a good comedian. I think your lectures are boring.

STEWART: Yes.

CARLSON: Let me ask you a question on the news.

STEWART: Now, this is theater. It's obvious. How old are you?

CARLSON: Thirty-five.

STEWART: And you wear a bow tie.

(LAUGHTER)

(APPLAUSE)

CARLSON: Yes, I do. I do.
. . .
STEWART: So this is theater.

CARLSON: Now, let me just ... Now, come on.

STEWART: Now, listen, I'm not suggesting that you're not a smart guy, because those are not easy to tie.

CARLSON: They're difficult.

(LAUGHTER)

78. I think you're right --
Stewart handled his audience better than he did. I guess they underestimated the ability of a former stand-up road comic to handle heckling. Jon was always good at that -- even when the hecklers were people sitting next to him on the stage.

They thought he was going to come on and be docile and funny and maybe say something harmless about Bush* or Kerry or the political process. They hadn't been paying attention to the things Stewart has been saying lately about the media and its abdication of responsibility to actually give the public nonpartisan, unfiltered information in a way that it can be understood. Tough shit, Tuck -- the information was there.

63. Yes, But Doing It
in a clever and witty manner. Both Begala and Carlson were way overmatched. As someone's already pointed, but bears repeating, at least Begala had the good sense to mostly shut-up.

I especially like the way Stewart paried Carlson charge that he toadied up to Kerry on The Daily Show, and throw only softball questions. Which was to laugh at Carlson for saying a fake news show led into by puppets making crank phone calls should somehow set journalistic standards.

I heard another interview w/ Stewart on NHPR, also part of his book tour, where he made essentially the same point. Great interview btw, listened to it w/ my teenager in the car, had us both in stiches. I can see that Stewart's been working up to what he did on Crossfire for a while.

83. Isn't it sad
that the fake-real news by Jon Stewart and the real news with laughs by Keith Olbermann are more witty, intelligent and informing than what passes for news on the so-called straight part of the schtick? (Speaking of "so-called," has anyone noticed that Lou Dobbs REFUSES to call the debates, "the debates?" He calls them the "So-Called Debates.")
CNN better wise up.
Or the wise will leave - in droves.

12. What I saw after finally getting to watch the clip
is that Jon was actually being pretty nice and funny until Carlson was a huge dick to him. Sure Tucker's laughing and all but the stuff he said was insulting and truly antagonizing. I think Jon went on the show to say what he said, but in a funny way. When he said, "You're hurting America," it wasn't a mean accusation, it was funny.

Tucker, on the other hand, came on the show with a hard-on for Stewart. He had his obnoxious questions written out and already on a prepared graphic. That "sniffing the throne" line was planned ahead of time and rehearsed (a variation has been used by several right-wingers, including Ann Coulter).

How totally predictable that Tucker's now wah-wahing about Stewart now that the show's over.

I hate violence, but sometimes there's no other recourse. I long for the day when someone goes on that show and does what need to be done -- punches Carlson right in the mouth.

I'm a longtime advocate of nonviolence, even in the most unjust of situations, because I believe it is really the only approach that will achieve lasting change for the better.

That said, I'd pay good money, camp out overnight, run around a stadium naked, shave my head if I had to - do just about anything - to be first in line to punch that sanctimonious little monkey in a bow-tie right in the kisser!

56. It's All A Charade
I saw the program live and taped it. Stewart did come out in hopes of "yucking it up with the boys" thing. I was there to shill a book (which he really doesn't) and he was THEIR guest...he didn't just walk on the set and say "here I am."

Tucker gets the daily blast fax with the talking points and then probably checks in with RoveCentral just before the show to get approval and final instructions. You hear out of his piehole what the meme of the day has been and the spin it will take on the evening food fights like O'Liely, Hannity, Zahn and other "friends".

You're damn right Tucker had that question cocked and loaded for Stewart and it was meant to embarass...Stewart knew it and wasn't going to put up with that shit and took him one better.

Tucker showed a contempt these 30something yuppies have...they were the geeks in school, never got invited to the good parties, didn't get lucky til they paid for it and still can't come to grips they're life's biggest losers.

"the reply of the staircase?" Think up something witty and urbane to say long after it's no longer pertinent to the conversation. Nice, Tucker. You should have thought of something to say in repudiation of his pointed (and accurate) remarks DURING THE SHOW. Too bad when someone gets in your face about things the RNC didn't issue talking points on you can't think of anything clever on the spot. Maybe loosen the bowtie.

STEWART: You know, the interesting thing I have is, you have a responsibility to the public discourse, and you fail miserably.

CARLSON: You need to get a job at a journalism school, I think.

CARLSON: Wait. I thought you were going to be funny. Come on. Be funny.

STEWART: No. No. I'm not going to be your monkey.

45. "But I think the tape makes it clear he humiliated himself."
That explains all the (LAUGHTER) every time Stewart says something on the transcript.

My favorite parts:
CARLSON: It's nice to get them to try and answer the question. And in order to do that, we try and ask them pointed questions. I want to contrast our questions with some questions you asked John Kerry recently.
STEWART: If you want to compare your show to a comedy show, you're more than welcome to.

CARLSON: You need to get a job at a journalism school, I think.
STEWART: You need to go to one.

CARLSON: What's it like to have dinner with you? It must be excruciating. Do you like lecture people like this or do you come over to their house and sit and lecture them; they're not doing the right thing, that they're missing their opportunities, evading their responsibilities?
STEWART: If I think they are.
(LAUGHTER)
CARLSON: I wouldn't want to eat with you, man. That's horrible.
STEWART: I know. And you won't.

We're talking to Jon Stewart, who was just lecturing us on our moral inferiority. Jon, you're bumming us out. Tell us, what do you think about the Bill O'Reilly vibrator story?
STEWART: I'm sorry. I don't.
STEWART: What do you think? Where's your moral outrage on this?
CARLSON: I don't have any.
STEWART: I know.

CARLSON: I do think you're more fun on your show. Just my opinion.
STEWART: You know what's interesting, though? You're as big a dick on your show as you are on any show.

48. Carlson's own audience was laughing and laughing at him
Edited on Sat Oct-16-04 10:42 AM by txindy
all while Carlson was demanding that Jon Stewart "be funny." Carlson didn't have a clue during the show that Stewart was being funny -- and truthful -- by pointing out how clueless Carlson and Begala really were. When the audience is laughing, Tuck, and you're not, chances are they are laughing at YOU! Moran.

55. Brilliant parody of the typical Crossfire performance
Stewart was a boor, but that's what made it work. He was sending up what's wrong with Crossfire: guests taking extreme, hostile positions just to entertain the audience, while evading real questions. Want nuance? Watch Charle Rose.

58. Typical typical ad hominem attack by little man Tucker
Fuck the substance of anything. It's always attack the messenger. Not what they are saying, not what it really means.

I guess it's a "bore" too when CNN reports actual news. So much more interesting to talk about Lesbians and men that have mistresses that kill their pregnant wives.

What they don't get it, is Stewart is not a monkey boy, and he isn't playing their game. Why should he? The reason the Daily Show is popular is A) It's funny (goat ball licker had me in hysterics) and it tells the TRUTH about our fuck-up of a President, his co-horts such as Rumscum the torturer inabler, and Ashcroft (what me change the constitution? I was just funnin ya) and damn the Daily Show had a thing about those fake Medicare "ads" which were really propaganda. I've never forgotten it.

INFOGANDA.

The Daily Show has saved many of us our sanity. CNN threatens to drive us mad. But hey, what do we know, we aren't partisan hacks or anything.

Carlson is a joke.. he acts like Little Lord Fauntleroy in his pouty lips and ridiculous bow tie. I haven't seen him standing up, but I imagine he's wearing knee-pants. He's a cartoon, and he can't stand it that Jon Stewart kicked his faux patrician ASS!

69. "Where is your moral outrage?" Stewart asked Carlson.
"I don't have any." Carlson replied.

"I know," agreed Stewart.

Stewart was outside the bounds of usual discourse on television, but he made a point: Crossfire is Theater, not news.

There are about 500 people providing the bittorrent of the monologue Stewart delivered:

Oh my God, these right wing wackos are BRAINWASHED!

That's the only logical explanation for these Bush shills...clinical lobotomies and brainwashing techniques!!!

Carlson's clocked was cleaned and he was peeing his pants and wanted to cry out "Mommy!"

It obviously wasn't enough to knock any sense into this moran. Fuck Tucker Carlson.

81. There should be a campaign to get Carlson OFF PBS!! After he delivered
that bit about "butt sniffing" etc. he lost the right to be on PUBLIC TV. We all pay for that. This creep is now supposed to have enough crediblity to run a show on PBS? Jon got to tell him he should go to journalism school...and he was right!

Carlson showed his true self...like Bush, he couldn't handle any type of challenge. Difference is, I think Carlson may know he whoring himself, which makes his behavior is worse.
