Dear MoveOn Students,
As you may know, a company called Sinclair Broadcasting is forcing
all of its 62 national network affiliates (including ABC, NBC, and
CBS, stations) to air a full length partisan hack job distorting John
Kerry’s service and activism during Vietnam. This may be the most
disgusting display of corporate interference in our democracy to
date. It’s time to fight back.
Thursday, October 21st MoveOn Student Action is organizing national
campus screenings of “Going Upriver”. It’s an excellent documentary
that sets the record straight about Kerry’s military service. But
Going Upriver is really about the other story, about how John Kerry,
students and veterans led a national grassroots movement to oppose
the most powerful men on the planet and end an unjust war. It’s an
incredibly effective and inspirational piece – and that’s not a
surprise – it’s the kind of heroism we need today.
Please join us, Thursday October 21st, and host a screening on your
campus. We’ll send you everything you need: a free DVD of the movie
and a step-by-step comprehensive organizing guide. To host a
screening just go to:
http://www.moveonstudentaction.org/eventsThe screening is just the beginning. After the movie we’re calling
into local and national Sinclair affiliates and demanding that they
honor the truth by at least showing Going Upriver along side the
record distorting “Stolen Honor.”
Then we’ll have a conversation about the war we’re facing now, and
the very real possibility of a renewed military draft. We’ll provide
insight from Vietnam and Iraq veterans that shows how real the draft
threat is – and what we can do about it.
To inspire any remaining undecided friends, and to fire up supporters
for the final week of action, this may be the most powerful single
tool out there. Everyone who sees this movie sees the challenges of
our time in a new light.
http://www.moveonstudentaction.org/eventsThere’s a reason Sinclair is willing to break the law to vilify John
Kerry’s activism, and why they are so terrified to show Going
Upriver. John Kerry captured it well in a scene from the film:
“Each time a man stands up for an ideal or acts to improve the lot of
others, or strikes out against injustice, he sets forth a tiny ripple
of hope and daring. Crossing each other from a million different
centers of energy those ripples build a current that can sweep down
the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance - and that is what
Vietnam veterans are trying to do.”
Now it’s our time.
Thanks for all that you do.
