FL Sec. of State issued new recount rules late yesterday. Trust machines.

This came out late yesterday.......Yes, trust Glenda.

http://www.theledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20041016/APP/410160614

SNIP..."Under the new rules, if a recount is needed, election officials must review a printout from each voting machine to count the so-called undervotes, or ballots on which no candidate was chosen. The equipment will be checked for problems if the number doesn't match the undervote totals given by the machine.

If the discrepancy remains, officials will rely on the original machine count...."

This rule appears to go against the court ruling.

1. I thought a large portion would not have printouts
How can they review the printout when there isn't one? Remember how Bush* ran on the theme "I Trust the People"? The very first opportunity he had to prove that he said "Only machines can be trusted because they are objective while people are subjective" That was how he rationalized stopping the recounts. Remember "the Votes have been counted and counted again and counted again" but never by actual people. Machines never make any mistakes just ask Bush*

2. I am hoping someone picks up on this.
I don't really see how it can stand.

3. Kicking for another Florida outrage.
I will be calling my Republican congressmen and legislators on Monday, but it will not make any difference at all.

Glenda Hood and Jeb are in sole control of our voting, and she does not answer to the legislature.

Looks to me like she is going against the court ruling.

5. Florida Democrats should vote by absentee ballot!
I received a phone call yesterday from my State Representative (D). His district stretches across from the eastern (D) area, to include some western (R) area. He is contacting registered Democrats here in Lee County, where we use the touch screens without a paper trail, and urging us to vote by absentee ballot!

It is appalling that our voting in this area is so suspect, that our State Representative has to warn us Democrats to vote by absentee ballot to be sure our votes will be counted! To all my fellow Democrats here in Florida, in counties that use the touch screen machines, I say, take this as fair warning, and vote by absentee ballot!

7. after reading greg palast's book...
the best democracy money can buy...with its new chapter on FLA...i am worried too...the same cast of characters will try to pull the exact same shit off...i expect they'll have some new dirty tricks too...amazing that it hasn't gotten more attention.

jimmy carter even made some comments to the effect that he could not certify the election based on what he sees now.

sorry for the doom and gloom, but ive written FLA off already...OH and PA are where my hopes are.

8. Why is Glenda allowed to change and make up the rules
as she goes along? Doesn't the Florida Legislature have to decide the rules?

Remember Katherine Harris couldn't give WPB even five more minutes to finish their recount because of the rules, that she had no power over changing?

9. She does NOT have to account to anyone but Jeb.
The job description changed after Harris.....appointed with no legislative oversight.

I have tried to call that to folks attention, but I think it is hitting home now.
