Final stretch Kerry/Edwards campaign ideas: post 'em if you got 'em.
I would love to see Kerry playing hockey again the weekend before the election. It was one of the great photo-ops of the primaries when he skated before the NH primary. Back to NH? with a few NHL stars?

I'd also like to see John and Elizabeth Edwards and their kids do a Halloween costume party with kids in a swing state. (And get those kids back in those cheesehead hats before Nov. 2).

Of course, keep hammering on jobs, health care, flu shot shortage, etc. But images are going to be critical coming down the home stretch.

Add your ideas - you just might see them happen!

3. At the risk of sounding shallow, I agree with you...
we should have an 'image blast' during the home stretch. If the repugs were able to sell the Shrub as a 'country boy' with lame shots of him pruning brush on his pig farm, our team should be able to show our candidates and their families as the 'real people' they actually are!

I cringe when I hear idiotic shit...'Shrub is an athlete' for instance. WTF?

Please get JK on a horse!!!

35. DO IT IN ILLINOIS!

They HAVE to have some photo ops in ILLINOIS!

I don't think they have enough of a lead there to NOT
go back and make some appearances!

ILLINOIS is still what I would consider a major
battleground state.

to be really clear, concise and intentional about hammering:
- jobs
- education (which does no fuckin' good if there are NO JOBS)
- health care
- the honesty bit about "I can't stop outsourcing" and "I won't raise taxes on those making less than $200,000" Honesty counts, and we sure can't count on any from Shrub
- Don't ever mention Mary Cheney's name again, since it is just an opening for the RePukes to put him on the defensive and deflect attention away from the Shrub's miserable failures
- SHRUB'S MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY FLIP-FLOPS! We need to SEE and HEAR the conflicting statements from the moron. We need ads showing his contrary statements back to back, one after the other.

On edit: I would REALLY love to see SOMEONE in the media take a wide shot of the backdrop of "the ranch" at Crawford and once and for all debunk this idyllic little scene: it's a fucking vacant lot next to a school that is not anywhere NEAR Chimpy's multi-million-dollar spread. It looks like a nice, picturesque, ordinary-Joe's-farm. It is anything but! WHY DO THEY KEEP FILMING IN THAT LOCATION? WHY DON'T THEY FILM THE REPORTERS SOMEWHERE ELSE? If that's not complicity from the right-wing media whores, I don't know what the hell is...

6. The Great Kiss-Off
For something we can do - there's the Great Kiss-Off

Join women across the country as we tell President Bush exactly what they think of him! We're sending the President thousands of “dear George” letters kissing him goodbye!

It is simple and takes a few minutes -- just download our letter, write your own personal message to George, and seal it with a goodbye kiss. Then take it to your post office on Oct. 19th and mail it off. Let Bush know that the women in this country are strong, united, and want him gone!

8. heating oil
Bush doesn't even know about heating bills.

If we have a cold winter, and heating oil is $3 a gallon, many will suffer. (Last year, it was around $1.35. It's $2 now.) There's no room in most budgets for another $1200 over the next six months.

9. Start a "whispering campaign" that Rove and Co will cheat the count.
Edited on Sat Oct-16-04 12:07 PM by JohnnyRingo
....Because that is likely what he will do.

From "Karl Rove Cornered":
http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200411/green

As the recount progressed, the margin continued to narrow. Three days after the election Hooper held a press conference to drive home the idea that the election was being stolen. He declared, "We have endured lies in this campaign, but I'll be damned if I will accept outright thievery." The recount stretched on, and Hooper's campaign continued to chip away at Hornsby's lead. By November 21 one tally had it at nine votes.

The race came down to a dispute over absentee ballots. Hornsby's campaign fought to include approximately 2,000 late-arriving ballots that had been excluded because they weren't notarized or witnessed, as required by law. Also mindful of public relations, the Hornsby campaign brought forward a man who claimed that the absentee ballot of his son, overseas in the military, was in danger of being disallowed. The matter wound up in court. "The last marching order we had from Karl," says a former employee, "was 'Make sure you continue to talk this up. The only way we're going to be successful is if the Alabama public continues to care about it.'"

Initially, things looked grim for Hooper. A circuit-court judge ruled that the absentee ballots should be counted, reasoning that voters' intent was the issue, and that by merely signing them, those who had cast them had "substantially complied" with the law. Hooper's lawyers appealed to a federal court. By Thanksgiving his campaign believed he was ahead—but also believed that the disputed absentee ballots, from heavily Democratic counties, would cost him the election. The campaign went so far as to sue every probate judge, circuit clerk, and sheriff in the state, alleging discrimination. Hooper continued to hold rallies throughout it all. On his behalf the business community bought ads in newspapers across the state that said, "They steal elections they don't like." Public opinion began tilting toward him.

10. Clintonomics
I work in the technology field, and know several undecideds who saw their retirement funds ruined during the Bush recession. A woman colleague of mine, 56 years old, had $250,000 before Bush, and now has $90,000 in her retirement account. Kerry should run a commercial that says, "Thinking about retirement? Vote Kerry and bring back the economic growth policies of the Clinton era."

12. "I will go to Iraq."
Have Kerry echo Eisenhower and say that he will go and meet with Sistani, al-Sadr, representatives of the Kurds, as well as foreign ministers of Iran, Syria, Jordan, Kuwait and Turkey PERSONALLY, IN BAGHDAD.

Besides being a reminder of one of the most famous electoral ploys since World War II, it would demonstrate a commitment to solving the mess in Iraq--not to mention displaying a physical courage that W lacks.

And who knows? It might even work.

Strictly on photo-ops....

(1) "I would love to see Kerry playing hockey again the weekend before the election. It was one of the great photo-ops of the primaries when he skated before the NH primary. Back to NH? with a few NHL stars?"

Oh god. Ditto. I am a city girl but went to college in Maine and have a thing about a guy on the ice... Good athletic persona.

(2) I would love to see him reading to a bunch of little kids someplace where it's beautifully diverse ...preferably squeezed into one of those little chairs (lol that they make you sit in at back to school night)--that would be cute. Of course it couldn't be My Pet Goat... it would have to be a classic like Curious George.

(3) Giving a flu shot (where's Dean--he needs to go along) ...standing in a very long line talking to seniors ...visiting a nursing home speaking one on with one of the residents.

(4) A meeting with a respected world leader...

(5) I wish he would give an inkling of possible cabinet members

(6) Factory closing..Economy, economy, economy!

(7) Trick or treating in a very chimpy scary Bush mask (kidding of course..)

I want them to tell these idiots what war is like. I want the generals and admirals to tell the idiots that strength in leadership means NOT going to war. I want them to tell the idiots why that Chimp is the worst thing ever to happen to our military, why the most dangerous thing we could do would be to give them another four years, why John Kerry's strength, courage, intelligence, insight and commitment to the country is exactly what we need.

38. Jesus as a write-in candidate.
I'm not kidding about this. I think there is a huge segment of the population who simply supports Bush because they think it's the Christian thing to do.

So maybe it's time to give them a third party alternative.

"A vote for Jesus is a prayer to Our Lord to use His wisdom to select the best candidate."

And in its own Bush-honest way, it's true, because as we Democrats know the hard way, a vote for a third-party candidate is an automatic vote for the winner. Jesus might not do the deciding for them, but people with more wisdom than they will.

Sorry if I sound like an asshole, but I'm pretty fed up with the bad guys continually manipulating the public mind through deception and stacking the deck against us through misapplication of their power. So maybe it's time to give a good dose of it back.

Talk about the assault on birth control. The draft scares people, but the assault on birth control access is worse, it will affect so many more people. Get some of the women who have been denied birth control by their pharmacies out on the news circuits talking about it.

If you are too polite (like me) to send political stuff to your professional assoc. lists, football, soccer, baseball teams from year 0 to now, send them by private message to a DU'er you like and ask them to send your friends political information. With the understanding that they will not misuse, sell, etc. and will send bcc, so nobody's email gets scooped up by a real spammer.
I realize this isn't really very nice either but we have got to shake this terrible disease of an administration.
That's my big idea. I hope nobody flames me - this solves my problem, giant email list that is off limits for political info.

50. Use http://www.hoppervideo.net
I have put together a web site containing four short films about the Bush Administration.

http://www.hoppervideo.net

Three of the four films deal with the run-up to the war. While many things disturb me about the Bush Administration, its deceitful overselling of the case for WMD in Iraq is one of the more obvious reasons that these people do not deserve to lead our Nation.  Perhaps we will never know in detail the actual reasons we went to war, but there can be little doubt that lies and scare-tactics were used to rush us into this quagmire.

I encourage folks to use the site as a tool here in the last weeks.

Please forward the web site to as many people as you can.  Please encourage those you contact to send the link on to others.

In particular, if you know any swing voters or Bush supporters, I encourage you to send them a personal message encouraging them to think about voting for Kerry, including my site and any others that might
sway them.

Also, it would be good to send the site to mothers, fathers, and young people with a message saying the Bush lied us into the war, how can we trust him not to start the draft if he is reelected.

Since the movie files are fairly large, choosing a broadband location will enhance your viewing pleasure.

55. A Dem October Surprise--document leak.
I've been thinking about this for some time. Rove is playing a game of preplanned damage control with the Sinclair thing. There's only a small chance they're going to pull back on showing the attackumentary, and I bet it has something to do with survival. Sinclair will most likely go down when Kerry wins, if for no other reason, because Michael Powell knows of all the "bodies" that SBGI have buried, and Rove/Hughes are using that against them. I digress.

I have a feeling that some sensitive documents have been leaked out of the WH or the G. H. W. Bush Pres Library, and this is why the * campaign appears on the defensive. They're bracing for something. The Kerry camp is not full of a bunch of idealistic liberals. It's not a time to play clean, so I hope they have something up their sleeves.

I know. I should put on my :tinfoilhat:, but I just hope it's 10 times worse than AWOL. Let's hope Carville puts some really pretty wrapping paper on it.
