Bush in FL "to reach out to discerning Democrats and independents"

Broward and Palm Beach account for about 20 percent of the state's registered Democrats, but the region holds enough Republicans and nonaligned voters to help in a hotly contested race. Bush also makes an appearance Saturday afternoon in Daytona Beach. (On Florida ballots)

"The president is going everywhere in the state he can to reach his base and to reach out to discerning Democrats and independents," said Bush campaign spokesman Albert Martinez.

"The election is as close as it seems," said U.S. Rep. Peter Deutsch, D-Hollywood, who unveiled a new television ad by the Democratic National Committee challenging Bush's prescription drug plan.

"This county alone, if the margin of victory for the Democrats is significant enough, it could really wipe out the gains in other parts of the state," said Justin Sayfie, a former aide to Gov. Jeb Bush, the president's brother.
