Abortion defines the Republican party |
|
Yeah, I know it might be kinda pointless to clone a closed Freepruptor thread, but in this case it's true.
Without the possibility of a 7-2 fascist Supreme Court in a second Bush Jr term overturning Roe V Wade, how many votes would that fucking imbecile get, even from Republicans.
How many so called "Christians" decide their vote in every election based on that one issue?

1. It defines those who the Right WIng have sunk thier hooks into |
|
The Repuke party was always about big money, protect the rich. I always said I would never have enough money to be a repuke and it remains true today. The Abortion thing is something that the rich right wing bastards figured they could use to bait and hook the Christians. It has been many years in the making, they have been very patient hooking more and more all the time. It amazes me everytime I take my daughter to her piano lesson, these are nice Christian people with about a dozen kids and living in a house the the wind blows through. The both work odd jobs just to get by and drive cars that could fall apart at any moment. But they have their yard full of B/C sings and We Vote Pro Life bumper stickers holding the cars together. These people are never going to get anything from the repukes but they are told that they will, election after election. The repukes have been in total control for 4 years, if they have not acted now, they never will. It is a lie they tell the Chistian community to get their vote. Lies define the Republican party!

2. rumblings underneath the surface |
|
First -- I think you're right that it defines much of the rhetoric by the most bombastic of the spokespersons.
But -- I'm hearing rumblings from under that tent. People who have been staunch Republicans, conservative Catholics, conservative protestants are having second thoughts.
In the past 2 weeks, I've watched three of my own friends move away from Bush and to Kerry (holding their nose, but nonetheless moving).
Abortion WAS the most important issue -- but the Bush administration has opened their eyes to a wider world. They're thinking more globally.
May be the single greatest accomplishment of the Bush administration -- the "fracturing" of the "pro-life" movement.
