Going canvassing today. Could use some help!
We heading towards the goalpost, DUers! (And we will score big! I don't doubt it!) But in these last days, let's all make an extra "above and beyond" effort to get out the vote.

In that regard, I'm headed out this afternoon on another canvassing expedition in my small town, which is in a very liberal area, but because it is a suburb, contains some strident repukes as well. I want to give my last few canvassing trips an extra oomph that they seem to be lacking when I hand out the standard Dem party literature. What are some downloadable flyers that you have found effective? I don't want anything too over the top. It should hit * hard, but be fact based. People around here seem to be very concerned with the deficit, so anything with specific info on that would go over well.

Any ideas? And thanks in advance. C'mon, we CAN DO THIS!!! Now is the time to make a difference! Don't kick yourself later!:-)

1. Where's that graphic?
There's a graphic floating around here with the debt for the last 50 years or so on it. Very telling. Somebody?

2. Get your teflon jacket on today for those who are ugly about your efforts
For the most part you will do well, the list is from people who have voted Dem before and most will respond favorable. But you will hit a door or two that the person is nasty and rude. Just shake it off and move on.
I was out this morning for a couple of hours, I would still be out there if other things did not interfere
Good Luck and thanks for your efforts

4. I'm going out tomorrow for awhile in my neighborhood.
I'm not good at approaching people that way, and I had one bad experience before. Your advice gave me some courage. Thanks!

6. If you are not good at approaching people, team up with some one who is.
It will help build your confidence level and even improve your chances.
Once you have some confidence, get a young person to join you, They are great at this stuff. If they are energized they will take on the world.
Again Good Luck and Thanks

5. Oh, and this
Print GW's health care page.
http://www.georgewbush.com/HealthCare/

Particularly...

"Opened or expanded community and rural health centers.."

This is stuff he says he's done, now that I take a second look. Really? The health clinic in my town closed and it didn't have doctors in it to begin with. At a speech in Oregon he said he wanted a staffed clinic in every county. Government health? Two health care systems? The cost?

George's plan sounds more expensive, and unworkable, than Kerry's, to me.

8. Last canvass --
Don't play coy with them. Be straight up even if it feels a little awkward at first.

Ask straight out if they are voting for your gal/guy.

If the answer is YES then ask why - to confirm they know about the reason they want him/her (and they are not wasting your time). A suitable answer to that question means they get a definite follow up on election day - see if you can recruit to drive other supporters who don't have transportation to the polls. Thank them either way and move on.

If the answer is NO then move on without comment or discussion. There aren't any "undecided" where canvassing is concerned at this point that you can waste time. Getting out the vote is the priority and you do that by identifying definite supporters you - or somebody else - can follow up on E day with.

9. Here the link to the flyers
I use the flyers with Army War College quote about Iraq all the time.

Go to http://somnamblst.tripod.com to download high resolution TIF or PDF file to print and distribute everywhere. Utility poles, bus stops, bulletin boards, newspaper racks, car windshields, phone booths, etc. Guerilla marketers needed to create MAXIMUM BUZZ!
