Where has James Carville been?
I haven't seen him on Crossfire in quite a while. Could he possibly be working for Kerry fulltime now? I've definitely noticed an improvement in the last month or so.

5.  I talked to Begala at the Debate and he says he can't do
anything partisan as long as he is contractualy bound to CNN. I find tha interesting as Crossfire is partisan on both sides. Anyway Carville has been in Europe, or so I read. I wouldn't put it outside the realm of possibility that he is taking a leave of absence to work the Campaign. If that is possible. I think they both advise covertly.Who would know? JMHO Mike McCurry spoke at a Dem luncheon in Phoenix and he is really heading the campaign now. I got to speak to him and how I wished he had been brought on earlier. One of the main thing he is interested in is what people like us think, and it shows. I'll bet he is tooling around DU. Thanks Mike!

6. He was on the Today show last week
I've stopped posting that info here because so many people have switched their browser from IE to Mozilla / Firefox / Opera, and whenever I post the link to a Today Show video clip, most of the replies that come back are "I can't see the clip."

You can all thank Bill Gates for that one, and that's the way he wants it. View it in IE or don't view it at all.

In last week's clip he was still saying the best way for Bush to conduct his campaign and get his message across would be to "sit in Dick Cheney's lap."

11. He didn't address that specifically, no.
I don't recall who the Bush spokesman was (might have been Tucker Askew).

Carville spent most of his time laughing on the split screen while the Bush guy went on and on and on about Bush's agenda for a stronger, wonderful-er, bestest-EVER, TERRIFIC U.S.A....it was the same old garbage.

The same old "if Bush has such great ideas, why haven't we heard any of them in the last four years" stuff.

At the end of all of this, that's when Carville made the "sit in Cheney's lap" remarks.

IF you feel adventurous and want to go to FreeRepublic, they have a rant on the "Cheney's lap" comments (from the FIRST time he said it in September, NOT last week):

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1210868/posts

EXCERPT:

"Carville jumped on the opening, claiming "the lesson is that Bush is a man of limited personal courage. His honorable discharge was probably the result of politics."

Carville then tried to tie W's alleged lack of courage to the debates: "Let him sit in Dick Cheney's lap to do the third debate. Maybe he'll come out that way. Bush always try tries to game the system."

SNIP

"Then it was Carville getting back to his personal taunts: "Tucker, have your boy get out of Cheney's lap."

Askew wasn't buying and wasn't backing down: "James, get off this, I don't have a 'boy."

10. I think he made a deal with Mary M
"keep your mouth shut the last two months of the campaign..or else."

and he said

"Yes dear.'

So he's home babysitting while Mary campaigns for Cheney.

12. He was in Venezuela, working with the Chavez recall group
He was a paid political advisor to the Recall Chavez group-- until that recall failed spectacularly. Now he's back home doing his usual political hackery, I'd imagine.

Strategist Carville, Matalin reveal debate tips
BY CHRISTIAN MURRAY
STAFF WRITER

October 14, 2004

Two of Washington's leading political strategists, Democrat James Carville and his Republican wife Mary Matalin, spoke at Adelphi University last night, providing tips before the presidential debate on how to evaluate a candidate's performance....

Carville said the candidate who had the stronger start would set the tone of the debate. "Early points are more important," he said, since viewers tend to tune out as the debate continues. Furthermore, "the other candidate knows he's losing," putting added pressure on himself.

Carville said counterpunches to attacks do the most damage. When a candidate makes an allegation and the respondent comes back harder, big points are won.

The couple was in Garden City last night to promote their new book, "All's Fair: Love, War and Politics."
