Divisions in America
Thanks to Bush and the neo-cons this country has become more divided than it's been since Vietnam.

The Repukes are divided into several categories: the KKKristian Koalition zombies, the corporate giants in energy, munitions, prescription drugs and insurance who have provited mightily from W's policies (not just tax cuts), the traditional Republicans, and the log-cabin Republicans (feel free to add more).

The Dems are divided essentially into two groups: the progressive and anti-war people who for the most part supported candidates like Howard Dean and Dennis Kucinich, and the sell-out spineless DLC'ers who are represented by the likes of Tom Daschle, Joe Lieberman, Dick Gephardt, and John Kerry. The progressives have no choice but to reluctantly promote John Kerry for President because anyone but Bush seems to be the choice of the day.

Feel free to add your own categories/subcategories/comments/disagreements about the divisions existing in America today.

1. Those who driver hummers.... and those who use the wind
to get around. The GOP has been guilty of using hot air to get around doing the right thing for "their own people". (ussins)

I saw an older model lincoln continental yesteday... (I am in the heart of shrub country) rear window had on the left... 4 years was enough for his daddy... right side.... Kerry Edwards in 2004. What an uplifting sight to see in the middle of the day... in such a place as this.

2. I agree we are fragmented
I disagree with some of the specifics in your categories.

the right includes the corporatists (munitions, pharmos. energy, financial etc.), wealthy oligarchists, religious zealots and their brainwashed victims, anti-choice zealots, gun nuts, and RW talk radio cultists.

the left is split in two, much as you describe, although "spineless" is an inaccurate disparagement. there are progressive liberals (like me) and the moderates.

A bigger split is upon us though: those who play by the rules and those who don't. It's here that we are losing.

I don't see a solution to this problem no matter who wins the "election."

4. Good points.
By "spineless" I was using Howard Dean's description of the DLC crowd in Congress (a majority of dems in Congress) - he repeatedly referred to them as "spineless beltway democrats" because they have constantly rolled over for the Bush crowd on votes - including - and pointedly - the IWR vote.

I don't think Kerry, for example, is "spineless". I would agree with you that he is more of a "moderate". But guys like Gephardt, Lieberman and Daschle who more consistently tote the DLC line I would definitely describe as "spineless".

6. Despite my distaste for the DLC crowd
I'd refer to even them as just people I dsagree with on many issues and on tactics, rather than as "spineless." I think they are just center-right on some issues I'm way left on. On others, though, even Lieberman et al are actually progressive. Lieberman is very good on environmental issues. Gephardt is strong for labor. Daschle is, well, a Democrat.

5. "Divided States of America"
A perfect name for Bush's version of "Amerika".

"I'm a uniter, not a divider" - Bush, 2000
"You're either with us or against us" - Bush, 2001
"Osama Bin Laden - dead or alive" - Bush, 2001
"We'll smoke him (Bin Laden) out" - Bush, 2001 X 6
"You're either with us or with the terrorists" - Bush, 2002
"I'm not really concerned about Osama Bin Laden" - Bush, 2004
