Dred Scott ref in 2nd debate code message to anti-abortion supporters
The "Dred Scott" reference * made in the 2nd debate was code. In effect, Bush was transmitting to the anti-abortion freaks that if he were elected again, he'd work to make sure Roe was overturned.

Here's the link at The Nation magazine:

1. That Explains It
I thought Dubya was just losing it. It has been an insidious strategy of the Pro-Life crowd to make the debate over slavery analgous to abortion. Alan Keyes has done it, saying the Pro-Choice crowd has taken the "slave holder's view"

But I cannot help thinking in some ways the Pro-Lifers are like the slaveholders, forcing women into a situation in which they do not want to be. A slave could not control any aspect of her life, including when she had children. The slaveholders would often blame the woman for being in a situation that was not of her choosing and compare her to Jezebel.

3. LOL
Honestly, I am not sure the Right To Privacy was the best arguement to secure a woman's right to choose. Not sure what the best *LEGAL* arguement would be when it goes back to the Supreme Court.
