38. I'm in a democratic area of the state |
|
and I haven't seen hardly any ads, then again I'm too busy campaigning for the guy to watch much tv. Unfortunatley the rumor is Kerry is pulling the air support Sunday or Monday, it's really too bad, hopefully op-truth will start running their ads here this week. Really the only angle to WV'ans is the support our troops angle and how much Bush, or as known here Booosh, has screwed them over.

5. I'm beginning to wonder if THIS is not an "October Surprise." |
|
This, along with that o'rascal o'reilly. OUR October Surprise. A couple that kkkarl did not count on.
The flu vaccine scandal is a big one. There are those who fear Canada's health care system. Socialized medicine. Rationing. Long lines, dontcha know?
Um...well, if their system is so bad, how come WE have the long lines, and THEY have the vaccine?

13. MY CANADIAN HEALTH CARE PLAN |
|
as a small business owner, costs me $150 every three months, the same for all other albertans here in canada, for the rest of the country I believe it is free.
if I add a plan that also has 85% coverage for dental, it would be anopther $55 a month from blue cross, for me, small business owner or independant worker.
Realizing the cheapness of this most employers offer these plans for group rates which work out to about $31 a month for the employees.
Yes, Canada has problems with it's health care system, but it is top notch compared to a system that has 20% of its community with none.

Blue cross covers my prescription drugs as well, 90%
so a drug I use monthly, that would cost me $99 for 30 pills costs, $9
nine.

10. You know what's funny |
|
The whole thing about Flu shots are a joke!! I mean, not for those who truly need it but for the rest of us. There's like hundreds of strains of the flu out there and any given year the shot only covers a small portion of them.
Now our country is in a national panic and for most of us it's nothing to get upset over. However, who am I to complain

31. If you want a shot, contact your local health dept., stores, etc. |
|
My wife, who has fibromyalgia (an immune system disorder) was persistent in tracking down a flu shot. She had to wait for almost two hours but was able to get one at the local Kroger's supermarket.
No, it's not a joke. But also it is not impossible to get a shot. I think she made 20-30 calls before she found a place that still had vaccine.

26. For millions of us, it's DEADLY serious. |
|
I would love to be one of those who could trivialize it, but I don't have the good fortune; I have insulin-dependent diabetes, anemia, and a heart problem. And I'm only 45!
Fortunately, I can get one on October 28th, but they've told others at my workplace that they must wait or go without; and we have direct public contact, often with the homeless.

39. Yes, but if you read what I said, I said exactly that |
|
What it is a joke for is folks like me who have absolutely no reason to get the flu shot. You have to admit that the flu shot has never been perfect; it doesn't cover every strain of flu known to man. So this shot, as imperfect as it is, can help those who need the shot but it seems its folks like us who really don't need this shot that are making it impossible for the rest who do. And it honestly seems like a false state of panic, very similiar to the "terrarist warnings" we get from our government, that is making it worst because millions of totally healthy people are panicking because they think they'll get the flu even when they are totally healthy (like me) and probably don't need it and would have never gotten it even without the shot
If anything, the last time I got the flu shot (about 3-4 years ago), I ended up feeling like crap the next 2 days. The next year I was travelling a few days after our work was offering a free shot and I opted out of getting it because I didn't want to be out of town feeling sick like I did the year I got the shot.
I hope no one thinks that I'm begrudging anyone of getting the flu shot who truly needs it. Maybe joke was the wrong word but I was referring to the healthy who are panicking over a shot that probably would have done nothing for them anyways.

I wanted to add to the information given above about socialized medicine. I live in Australia, where there is a similar system to Canada's. It might not be absolutely perfect, but when I had a major health crisis a few years back, I was at least able to get adequate health care - a far cry from my situation when I was still living in America and had a life threatening illness and had lost my health insurance. Thinking of all the people in America who are now uninsured or underinsured thanks to Bush is mind boggling.
Flu shots also should not be trivialized. Yes, for healthy persons, they're probably not important, but for those who have compromised immunities due to auto-immune disease, cancer, HIV and the like, they can be a matter of life and death. My 71 year old mother has not been able to get one so far this year, and she also has auto-immune disease.
I think this ad is going to have an incredible impact, because there are a lot of people who have people who should have a flu shot in their family.

One of the cable news shows played it. Killer ad!
They could have added the part where he said don't get a flu shot if you're healthy (pathetic). But altogether that's the best Kerry ad I have seen all year.
