Why would intelligent people follow a religious fanatic ?
Just finished reading tthe article, 'Without a Doubt', in the NYTimes, who described the Bush presidency as a faith-based presidency. There were numerous examples with people whom we thought were intelligent leaders but they were silent as their leader, George W Bush, was guiding them on blind faith alone. Who's really to blame? The leader, or those that should know better, that follow him?

At first, they said we didn't have to be concerned about Bush not being knowledgeable because he had all these "brilliant" advisers to assist him. How were we to know that none of these advisers had a backbone and could not stand up to George W Bush? When they knew he was acting without facts or reason, they did not protest. Who in the hell are these crazy people!

Only education and competent critical thinking skills can overcome powerful inherent evolutionary flaws in human behavior.

5. Everyone sees the world through their own lens...
Everyone is biased and interprets the same information in different ways. Just running around calling people crazy anytime they disagree with you is hardly a recipe for coaxing people to your point of view.

7. But many people supporting Bush believe in absolute truth
if all truth is relative and based individual perception then it is dangerous and inconsistent to act out in groups any tenet that resembles dogmatic ideas. In essence all dogma is bunk since no two perceptions can ever be identical.

13. I think youll find just as many people here that buy into absolute truth
Just look around... it doesnt take a rocket scientist to find the axiomatic unquestionable golden calf concepts around here either.

8. Some of them might be followers of Leo Strauss
That is, people who believe that superstitious cults are useful to control the minds of the hoi polloi. Many of the Neocons are Straussians.

Of course, if they think they're really in control of Bush, they're probably as self-deluded as the rest of that crew.

16. They also believe that lies, deceit
and any other underhanded (lethal?) methods are merely useful tools to maintain their naturally superior positions as the rulers of the world.

Have a "nice" little conversation with that bunch. Maybe you could coax them into a humanistic point of view.
