Silly election question re: Electoral Map and Red/Blue
Okay..

I'm helping decorate for an election party, and I've heard two different theories about what color will represent which candidate on the Electoral Map.

Theory One states that the television stations will use Red for Bush and Blue for Kerry, and that these colors will stay by their respective parties from now on.

Theory Two states that the television stations will use Red for the Challenger and Blue for the Incumbent.

I'm really really hoping that it's blue, but I don't want people to show-up to this party to find blue candles, signs, streamers, mixed drinks, etc and then see from the networks that they're inadvertantly cheering for Bush.

So.. what color will Kerry be? It just dawned on me that we're getting really, really close to The Day.

1. I would guess blue...
It's traditionally the color they use for the Democratic candidate (believe they did so in 2000) so I would venture a guess they'd do the same this year :)

Good Luck with your party, and keep thinking good thoughts - the beginning of the end of GWB is almost upon us!!

3. Nearly everything I've seen this season has red for bush and
blue for President Kerry. I doubt they would change on election night.

4. You're right, traditionally red is used for the challenger
and blue for the incumbent, but with all the red state/blue state talk over the past four years, I'm willing to bet they'll keep Kerry blue and * red.

5. Many years ago, when color TV was fairly new, the networks
seemed to alternate between Red/blue for each party. However, of late they have almost reached a consensus on Red for Repug. This may have been an effort to avoid the charge that they were calling the lefties communists.
