Lynn Cheney calls Kerry "pig."
Edited on Sat Oct-16-04 11:58 PM by A-Schwarzenegger
Another DUer (kskiska) just posted this story but I humbly thought it needed another thread with the current title.

Hopefully there is some enterprising reporter reading
here who will use the same headline in a story. This is outrageous,
as is the fact that nobody raised hell about it, especially
after the Mary episode.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uselections2004/comment/story/0,14259,1329373,00.html

The hall was dark and so was Lynn Cheney's mood. The wife of America's Vice President pulled no punches in saying exactly what she thought of John Kerry.

There was a saying in her home state of Wyoming for people like Kerry, she told a crowd of Republicans in Pennsylvania who had just watched the third presidential debate in a dimly lit hotel ballroom. 'When you keep trying to make something look good and it is not so good, you call it putting lipstick on a pig,' she snarled to the crowd's raucous laughter.

Calling Kerry 'a pig' was extraordinary language, even by the standards of an American election campaign that has plumbed new depths of bitterness and divisiveness. No one in the hall batted an eyelid. And no Democrats complained.

Because Alan Keyes once said about your daughter something of the effect that she is indulgent due to her sexual perference and viciously attacked her.

You said nothing.

When Republicans like Falwell say that people like your daughter are responsible for 9-11 you say nothing.

John Kerry tastefully used your daughter's sexual preference in a respectful manner and you go off in a mock rage.

You're as phony as your husband bitch. Get over it.

PS Are you gonna write anymore sleazy novels soon that involve hot lesbian sex?

12. What a phony
This staged "outrage" over Kerry mentioning Mary being a lesbian is the truly outrageous thing. As a gay man, I do not consider being mentioned as a gay person to be derogatory if it is not spoken in that manner. If my parents ever said they were outraged that someone had spoken about me being gay I would be FURIOUS with them! It would show that they were ashamed of me. Of course, feeling insulted by Republicans is nothing new, but this disgusting attempt by them to try to pretend they're on the gays' side of this issue feels like nothing short of extortion. Lynne is the pig here, and so is Mary for being a horrible example to gay people everywhere.

When Teresa Kerry told an obnoxious reporter (who had a history of defaming her & her family) to "shove off", all hell in the media broke loose!

Let's see how they handle "Ma Barker" Cheney's more offensive term -- not for a lowly reporter, mind you, but for John Kerry.

Just don't hold your breath.

23. Watching her standing behind Crashcart the day following the debates...
when he played his "angry father" role in front of a doting bunch of Bushies, I couldn't help but notice that she looked absolutely DEMENTED. Her hair was mussed, her face pale and glowering, and her eyes were red and crazy-looking. As Dick ran his game, she was nodding behind him like some born-again wingnut at a revival meeting.
She reminded me a great deal of the self-righteous Felicia (I believe that is the name) in The Witches Of Eastwick... the one who spews cherries. She is clearly worried about losing her power come Election Day. Yikes.

It is painfully obvious they want to disguise the truth of the matter. They have nothing good to say for their camp, so create a diverson. We know they don't really give a crap about Kerry's remark. But, to kool-aid drinkers everywhere it is a horrible, horrible thing.

I don't think any Democrats are going to switch sides because of what Kerry said. Undecided voters will forget this and the only thing they will remember is what is said a couple of days before Nov.2. People seem to have forgotten more important things than this. Let's hope we have smooth sailing.

Bush's lies and answer avoidances could fill a four-hour prime time schedule, but hey-Kerry mentioned the Cheneys' homosexual daughter. Now that is really earth-shaking. News people-REPORT THE NEWS. Which is exactly what you've done in every single post
of yours that I've seen.

96. You flatter
yourself.

I had only read two of your posts at the time.
In both of them you called for a third party.
First you did, then you claimed you hadn't, then you did it again.
Now, however, after having read the rest of your posts, I see
that you have yet to post anything even remotely resembling
support for Kerry. What. A. Shock.

74. I read it in the paper!
How did Lynn Cheney KNOW Kerry was insulting her and
Dick and Mary? He WASN'T. It doesnt matter what IS,
it matters what is PERCEIVED. It matters what is SAID
about what is. Here's another example below. Now first she's
talking about the way KERRY TALKS, and KERRY'S HAIRCUT,
and KERRY'S MANICURE, for God's sakes, and then the writer
(or Lynn herself, since I dont know the transition that's
left out of the story) bends it so she's talking about
his freaking "record." She might as well have said "his
fancy lipstick"! All I'm saying is, somebody should get
it out there once, the monkeysee-monketdo media will swarm
it, and then BushCheneyCO will be derailed for days denying
and explaining it.

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/04288/395755.stm

"Claiming that Kerry has -- with "his fancy talk, fancy haircut and fancy manicure" -- tried to obscure his Senate record, Mrs. Cheney said that in the Cheneys' home state of Wyoming, such a practice is referred to as "putting lipstick on a pig."

I was being sarcastic, and I came up with something more useful to say. I figure that if Kerry's the pig, then Mary is the lipstick--and Lynne is the one who applied it.

75. I've used the exact phrase re: Dumbo and his pirates many times.
No big deal. A useful figure of speech. The problem is that it doesn't apply to Kerry so much as to Dumbo who indeed is the porcine with lipstick applied and his ass is still pork.

77. If this story stays alive, write LTTE's about Lynne's lesbian novel!
If those Cheneys, those fucking hypocrites, try to keep this story alive during the week (I mean, if it dies, let it die, but if they keep it going) ... I think we should all write pithy LTTE's to our local newspapers, showing that Lynne Cheney is willing to make money off a lesbian love story (she wrote a lesbian erotica novel called "Sisters," in 1981, which she has successfully kept out of print since before the 2000 election!) but she is SHOCKED, I TELL YOU that Kerry/Edwards point out that George Bush's policies against gays affect his own V.P.'s CHILD!

I think everyone needs to know this if this story is kept alive!

Here's last night's thread about the novel.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

This has some links to the novel and to passages from it, and even the Amazon site, through which you can find two used copies for $500 apiece! I've already written to Keith Olbermann and John Stewart about this crap! You can email them too, if you'd like. And anyone else in the MSM you think will listen.

78. How many facelifts has this woman had?
Her complete lack of any hair above and around the ears is a dead giveaway. The skin and muscle that used to be over her cheeks is now above her ears. I don't think her facelifts have been worth the effort. Every time she looks into the mirror, that "lipstick on a pig" saying should be going through her mind.

79. The reason why no democrats complained
Edited on Sun Oct-17-04 04:15 PM by rocknation
Calling Kerry 'a pig' was extraordinary language, even by the standards of an American election campaign that has plumbed new depths of bitterness and divisiveness. No one in the hall batted an eyelid. And no Democrats complained.
And no mainstream American news outlet has thought that it's newsworthy. Who are they going to complain to?

The fight will be a brutal slugging match between two campaigns that believe they can win if they make their opponent's faults the main issue.
Bush's faults are real; Kerry's were manufactured by the Bush campaign. The root of Bush's strategy was to convince the electorate that Kerry is more imperfect than he is. The debates, the first one in particular, destroyed that.

...the Democrats, too, are playing dirty. During last week's debate, Kerry specifically mentioned Cheney's lesbian daughter, Mary, during an answer about gay marriage. Edwards had also gone out of his way to bring her up when he debated with Cheney...
Cheney THANKED Edwards, remember? And where was the Cheney family's outrage when Alan Keyes suggested that Mary lifestyle was selfish and hedonistic?

...The debate caught the Republicans off guard. Despite his common man reputation and manglings of the English language, Bush is a strong debater. But his skills were rusty...Bush has held only 15 solo press conferences, while Clinton by this time had held 42 and Bush's father 83...
Kerry also played dirty, pressing Bush's psychological buttons by attacking him constantly on Iraq and comparing his record to that of his father. The result was a disaster for Bush, causing even his wife Laura to scold him for 'not being yourself'...

People who keep their public speaking to a minimum because they mangle their language are the OPPOSITE of master debaters. And what, pray tell, was Kerry SUPPOSED to say--"Right war, right decisions, right policies, right family, right wing?"

If you really mean all this, Mr. Harris, then I have to say that the debates caught YOU off guard, too!

Cheney, Graham compete for attention at same time

By CHRISTINA HOLDER, clholder@naplesnews.com
October 15, 2004

(snip)

The 2 p.m. radio spot, in which Graham said President Bush lacked personal responsibility because he had knowledge of terrorist activity prior to Sept. 11, 2001, came just hours after Cheney told several thousand people at FGCU "you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig" to describe Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts at a campaign rally sponsored by the Republican National Committee.
