Welp- Looks like I'm heading to Florida!
I live in Illinois, but I'm flying down to Ft. Lauderdale on Friday, the 29th and will stay until Monday, the day before the election, for some GOTV.

A bunch of my friends are already down there working for the campaign. I'll be joining them. I'll get to spend Halloween down there, too.

Should be fun. :)

2. I'm doing something
similar--I will be headed to Nevada on Friday the 29th--and I will stay there through the election (I have already submitted my vote for Kerry). I will be contacting the new voters and reminding them to vote for Kerry--and then driving people to the polls on election day.

Florida is more important (but not as convenient for me)--but it is nice to talk to someone else who is determined to deliver those "swing" states to Kerry! I hope we are successful!

4. Welcome to my neighborhood
I'm a little curious why you are travelling 1200+ miles for a GOTV campaign, seems like there might be something closer to ya :) On the other hand we can use all the help we can get down here so welcome to FL. Be sure to visit the beaches while you're here, to get there you can take the Ronald Reagan Memorial turnpike north from Ft Laud and then George Bush Blvd east to the beach.

No, I'm not kidding.

Good luck out there BGL.

in the Ft. Lauderdale area, and he put a bunch of pressure on me. A bunch of my other college friends are going to be there, too.

If I went to Ohio or Wisconsin or Iowa, I wouldn't know anyone.

And I'll be hitting the beach, for sure. :)

6. Makes sense
Besides, I have a feeling that Florida will be an utter mess again this year, we need every person on the streets we can get. Whatever you have heard about Florida, the real corruption here is probably worse. They will stop at nothing, no matter how trivial or dirty, to prevent every vote they can. Thanks for the help and I mean that very sincerely.

16. That is disgusting -- roads to the beach named Reagan and Bush!

As a native Floridian, whose grandparents (both maternal and paternal) moved to Florida in the 1930's, I am deeply saddened to all that has happened to Florida over my lifetime.

Obviously, I am not talking about a few hurricanes, but about political corruption, environmental degradation, "private" beaches and condos blocking everyone but the condo-dwellers' view of the beach. It's not the Cuban-Americans who have ruined Florida, as some right wingers claim, except insofar as many are a subset of the immoral, greedy, grasping parasites of the modern Republican Party.

Somewhere, beneath it all, Florida is still a beautiful state, with many good people.

It makes me angry when people blame Floridians for the 2000 election fiasco, which was so clearly engineered by Jeb Bush to put his brother in power in Washington. (Jeb, of course, moved to Florida himself to gain power there. Bushistas hope to have him run for the White House in 2008.)

I long to see our country and my home state of Florida freed from the Bush scourge.

Best of luck in Florida!

9. take camera to record any funny business...eg attempts to prevent
people from voting......get names of those involved in problem situations if at all possible

at a discussion board post FL 2000 mess, some people kept demanding 'proof' of disenfranchisement, etc..."where are the pictures?" was the refrain

before 2000, who would plan to take a camera to vote?

you might want to check out all the claims of voter harrassment in FL 2000 to anticipate potential problems (if you haven't already done so)

10. Unfortunately I'm not going to be there on Election Day itself...
leaving Monday...

I'm thinking about taking that extra two days- but that would mean I'd have to get an absentee ballot for IL. Not quite sure how to do that.

17. Can you vote at home before you go? That would allow you to

stay for Election Day if you want.

I know some people have already voted, but maybe just absentee, which it may be too late to apply for. I'm planning to vote the last week of October since we have early voting in Georgia.

18. keep an eye on pat peale the republican bandaid lady........
This obnoxious asshat is on the way from her gated community in Texas to Florida, leading her "Mighty Texas Strike Force".

Think they were going to the Palm Beach area to seek out "election fraud". Horseshit, these people are up to no good.

If you see a 5'3", 210-lb, snarling she-monster with bad dentures, dressed in red, white and blue near a polling place, that's pat.
