Democrats name GOP official in phone jamming
By NANCY MEERSMAN
(Manchester NH) Union Leader Staff
Oct. 15

CONCORD — Federal prosecutors yesterday called a halt just 20 minutes before Democrats were to question a Republican official under oath over the identity of a Bush-Cheney official allegedly implicated in an illegal phone-jamming operation.
Computerized telephone calls jammed five Democratic get-out-the-vote phone banks, plus a sixth run by Manchester firefighters, for about an hour and a half during the 2002 election.

The U.S. Justice Department will ask a judge as soon as today to stay depositions that Democrats had scheduled yesterday and today in their civil lawsuit against the GOP in connection with the scheme launched in the 2002 New Hampshire election.

Decrying last minute "interference" by federal officials, Democrats in court filings yesterday identified the alleged co-conspirator as Jim Tobin, director of the 2004 New England regional Bush-Cheney campaign.

The rest of the story: An attorney I know who is familiar with the case says "total obstructionist bullshit."

The GOP, in a coordinated effort to squash the Democrat's get out the vote effort in 2002 and pervert the electoral process, engaged in phone jamming in NH. A civil suit was filed against the GOP and pursued discovery, including depositions. The GOP filed a motion to stay the proceedings claiming that discovery would impede the government's alleged on-going criminal investigation.

Plaintiffs objected, noting that the government had not raised any concern and, yesterday morning, won the issue in Hillsborough County Superior Court. The government did not involve itself in the litigation at that time.

A deposition of a GOP party official was scheduled for yesterday afternoon. Minutes ahead of time, word was that the Justice Department in DC sought to intervene (after the issue had been decided). Without a court order, the deponent did not show for the deposition. Contempt charges have been filed against the GOP official.

The only way repugs can "win' is by suppressing or otherwise interfering with Democratic voters.

2. I think we can expect to see this kind of thing nationwide........
as we get into the last 2 weeks.

The only way there will be anything less than a Dem blowout is with GOP cheating.
