"Politicians...they're all full of crap. Can't trust any of them!" |
|
That quote comes from righties who don't want to go any further in talking politics.
This is a disingenuous statement however because they do have their favorites like Ronnie Ray-gun or any other right winger as long as they aren't talking or having to answer to you in a debate.
Some are so disgusted with shrubya that they just as soon throw the whole subject out with the above quote.
What a bunch of spineless whiner righties with NO game!

1. It's a valid statement. |
|
Everybody has their beliefs.
But people, Right, Left, Center, or Out of Field, can see to an extent that the elected officials get there by singing the sweetest song and looking the prettiest and then give themselves raises and post-service lifetime benefits while giving more weight to the corporate dollar than they do the citizens.
I'm voting for Kerry because I want * out.
Whether or not I come to utterly believe Kerry depends on what he does after he gets elected to fulfill his promises. (right now I'm skeptical but optimistic.)

7. Point taken - having read followup replies from others, |
|
it dawned on me that that was the context you'd mentioned.
And you're right.

2. My freeper co-worker is like that |
|
When I push him as to why he's going to vote for Bush, even after all the horrible things he (Bush) has done, my co-worker just starts going off about how *all* politicians are liars and crooks.
I guess he doesn't want to face the fact that Kerry is clearly better than Bush.

4. It is true that very few politicians can be trusted. |
|
This is because of the nature of the political industry. Very little, if any, value is placed on the honesty or integrity of anyone in the politcal business, whether it be politicians, political consultants, campaign managers, or the political media. The political industry is all about acquiring and then retaining power so that government benefits can be provided to supporters.
Those benefits can come in many forms, including no-bid contracts, corporate tax subsidies, or social safety net provisions. But the acquisition and retention of power is the ultimate objective of the political industry, not doing the public good.
That being said, there still are serious and far reaching consequences, many of them long term, of electing one candidate instead of another. Anyone who disregards the consequences of every election, even state and local elections, is complicit in bringing those consequences about.

I really detest that type of comment! My general response, is YOU run for office, and YOU make a difference!
Don't expect instant miracles after Kerry is elected. He will have Congress to deal with, and you can bet the "other side" will attempt to find an issue they can plague him with just as they did the Clinton administration. This will be especially so, when Kerry is able to bring our foreign allies back into the fold.
All politicians are liars and crooks is just a cowardly cop out.
End of rant.
Onward and upward!
