Just talked my LLBean phone guy into voting for Kerry

I ask EVERYONE I deal with to vote for Kerry - the guy next to me on the plane, every salesclerk and bagperson at the supermarket; the staff at the beauty salon; the spinning instructor at the YMCA. I just finished placing a phone order and the young man asked, is there anything else I can do for you today. I replied, yes, I ask you to vote for John Kerry. He laughed and said well, I am undecided. I made three or four quick points. He agreed with me that this is the most important election in many decades and agreed with everything I said and thanked me for giving him the information. Said he had a good friend pushing him to vote for Kerry too.

There are a lot of people out there who will appreciate being asked for their vote.

Also, if you've got Kerry stickers on your car, remember to drive carefully and politely.

The last I knew was that Lydia Bean sill had controlling interest in LL Bean and was a staunch conservative. I had friends who worked at LL Bean and they hated her and the company, but they had little choice for employment in the area. That was a while back, so I don't even know if she is still alive. But it's the reason I've not shopped there in many years.

I'm smiling at the thought of how quickly you responded to that polite young man. What a way to campaign!

Also, it is very important that we give a "good witness," as it were, when we're campaigning for Kerry. This is not the time to sink to their level. I am always mindful that if I'm not polite or cosiderate while wearing my Kerry button, people might judge the candidate by my behavior. This is not the time to steal Bush-Cheney yard signs or use Dick Cheney language on people obviously supporting the GOP ticket. Win by winning people over, not by donnybrook.
