4. Helped to register 90 people at a Mall! |
|
Edited on Sun Oct-17-04 10:30 AM by goclark
Yesterday was just thrilling!
We worked for 8 hours and the people were coming so fast to register that we sometimes had 3/5 signing those papers at the same time!
Some priceless moments...
Middle aged African American lady told me," I've been registered! My grandma always told me, Child, Don't you go in those Bushes!"
At least 4 that just turned 18 were registered.
One lady was 51 and her husband dragged her in. He reminded me that he had promised to bring her in. After she finished registering, she gave me a hug. She told me, "I am 51 years old and this will be the first time I have ever voted."
A kid about 20, walking with his two friends, he was registered, they were not. He told them," We ain't moving another step in this Mall until you register!" When they told him they had to get to the store,he said," I have the keys to the car. You can't go home, unless you register NOW! I ain't going to War cause your sorry asses won't vote!" -- They registered. As they were leaving he told me that he was taking them to the Polls.
Many older folks told me, " Bless you for doing this good work."
We did register about three Republicans. They all looked ashamed to check the box that said the name of their Party. We were extra nice to them, you never know if they will change their minds. I think some will at the last minute.
Registering voters for 6 weeks was absolutely the most patriotic experience of my life.

Donated another $25 to Kerry and, on my bulletin board for teachers, successfuly (and easily) fought off the Bush supporters whose idea of a debate is pasting the contents of their e-mail in-boxes.
One conservative teacher publically converted to Kerry this weekend.

Rural voters, to get their ballots in early and vote for Dems. Special thanks to DemsRule for her cute trick in turning annoying calls into funny calls. When you get your ballots in, the phone calls stop! It works. Plus Kerry phone calls to Iowa voters on Friday. Go Dems, we're going to landslide this thing!
